NORFOLK, Va., Mar. 3, 2026 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced its weekly women's tennis honors, and two student-athletes from North Carolina Central University have taken home the top awards.

Alejandra Hidalgo Vega, a senior at North Carolina Central, has been named the MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Hidalgo Vega has been a standout performer for the Eagles all season, showcasing her exceptional skills on the court and leading her team to success.

Key Takeaway: Hidalgo Vega's recognition as the MEAC Player of the Week is a testament to the talent and dedication of North Carolina Central's women's tennis program, which has a proud history of producing exceptional student-athletes.

Joining Hidalgo Vega in the winner's circle is her teammate, Sara Barbaric, who has been named the MEAC Rookie of the Week. As a first-year player, Barbaric has made a significant impact, demonstrating her potential and contributing to the team's overall success.

"Sara has been a true asset to our program since day one," said North Carolina Central head coach, Jessica Williams.

"Her hard work, dedication, and talent have been instrumental in our team's performance this season."

The North Carolina Central women's tennis team has a long-standing tradition of excellence, with a rich history of producing talented student-athletes who have gone on to make their mark in the sport. Hidalgo Vega and Barbaric's achievements are the latest in a series of impressive performances by Eagles players, further solidifying the university's reputation as a powerhouse in MEAC women's tennis.
