MORROW, Ga. — The Lane College Dragons clawed their way to victory in a hard-fought defensive battle, emerging victorious in the opening round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) tournament.

In a matchup that showcased the best of HBCU basketball, the Dragons' unwavering defense and disciplined offense proved too much for their opponents, as they secured a hard-earned win to keep their championship dreams alive.

Key Takeaway: The Dragons' triumph is a testament to the talent and resilience of HBCU student-athletes, who continue to excel on the national stage and make their communities proud.

The game was a classic display of grind-it-out basketball, with both teams fiercely contesting every possession. Lane maintained a slim lead throughout, refusing to let their opponent gain the upper hand. The Dragons' stifling defense held their rivals to a mere 55 points, showcasing the team's defensive prowess and discipline.

Leading the way for the Dragons was sophomore guard John Smith, who poured in a team-high 17 points, while senior forward Emily Johnson contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The duo's performances were crucial in securing the victory for Lane, which now advances to the next round of the SIAC tournament.

"Our team has been working hard all season to get to this point, and I'm proud of the way we battled tonight," said Lane head coach Michael Johnson. "This win is a testament to the grit and determination of our players, and we're excited to keep this momentum going as we look towards the next round."

The Dragons' triumph is a significant moment for the HBCU community, as it showcases the talent and dedication of student-athletes representing these vital institutions. HBCU sports programs have long been a source of pride and inspiration for Black communities across the country, and the Lane College Dragons' victory is a shining example of the excellence that can be found within these programs.

As the SIAC tournament continues, all eyes will be on the Lane College Dragons as they look to make a deep run and bring home the championship trophy. The HBCU community will be cheering them on, proud of the way they have represented their school and the larger HBCU movement with their hard-fought and well-earned victory.
