CIAA Standout Joshua Williams Joins Tennessee Titans: A Triumph for HBCU Football

CIAA Standout Joshua Williams Joins Tennessee Titans: A Triumph for HBCU Football
Posted By: Will Moss on March 10, 2026

HBCU CONNECT - In a major move for the HBCU sports community, former CIAA star Joshua Williams has signed a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, marking a significant milestone for HBCU athletes making it big in the NFL.

Williams, a standout from Fayetteville State University, played for the Broncos from 2018 to 2021, leading the team to the CIAA championship game each year. During his college career, he recorded an impressive 79 total tackles (55 solo), 4.0 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions, and 17 pass breakups.

The former Bronco's journey to the NFL has been nothing short of remarkable. Drafted in the fourth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, Williams became just the second player in Fayetteville State history to be drafted to the NFL.

He then went on to win two Super Bowls with the Chiefs in his first two seasons, playing a significant role in the team's first title win.

In the 2022 AFC Championship game, Williams made a game-defining play, teaming up with former Howard defensive back to secure an interception that helped the Chiefs secure the win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Key Takeaway: Williams' journey from an HBCU standout to an NFL champion is a testament to the talent and potential of HBCU athletes, and his signing with the Titans is a proud moment for the HBCU community.

While Williams faced challenges in the Chiefs' secondary unit, he made the most of his opportunities on special teams in his final seasons with the team, making key plays to help flip field position. Now, he joins a Tennessee Titans team that finished the 2025 season with a 3-14 overall record, snagging the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

"Joshua Williams' success story is a shining example of the incredible talent and resilience that HBCU athletes possess," said HBCUConnect.com. "His journey from the CIAA to the NFL, and his impressive accomplishments along the way, inspire us all and demonstrate the immense potential of HBCU sports programs. We're thrilled to see him join the Titans and continue to make us proud."
