Quinn Gray Brings Renewed Intensity and Respect for Tradition to FAMU Football

Quinn Gray Brings Renewed Intensity and Respect for Tradition to FAMU Football
Posted By: Will Moss on March 11, 2026

As the new head coach of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Rattlers football team, Quinn Gray is wasting no time instilling his vision for an aggressive, disciplined, and tradition-rich program. With just a few spring practices under his belt, Gray's message is already resonating with his players and the HBCU community.

Gray, a FAMU alumnus, is no stranger to HBCU football. After a successful playing career with the Rattlers, he went on to coach at Albany State University before returning to his alma mater. Now, as the leader of the Rattlers, Gray is determined to rebuild the program with a focus on controlled intensity, accountability, and respect for the rich history of FAMU athletics.

Key Takeaway: Coach Gray's vision for FAMU football is centered on instilling a sense of pride, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence – values that are deeply rooted in the HBCU experience.

In his recent comments to the media, Gray emphasized the importance of playing "smart, fast, and physical football." He wants his players to embrace an "aggressive" identity, one that channels their intensity within the boundaries of the rules. As Gray put it, "We need players willing to stick their faces in the fan."

Equally crucial to Gray's plan is building a strong culture of accountability and respect for FAMU's storied tradition. He's instituting "history lessons" every Thursday, where players learn about the legendary Rattlers who paved the way before them. "They've got to know the people who came before them," Gray said.

"As a former Rattler, it's my duty to make sure they understand that tradition and keep it going."

The quarterback competition is just getting started, with returning signal-caller Isaiah holding a slight edge due to his familiarity with the system. However, newcomers Armond Parker and James are making steady progress, and Gray is excited to see the position group continue to develop.

"It's about playing the right way, with intensity and respect for the program. That's the standard now." - Coach Quinn Gray

HBCUConnect's Perspective

Quinn Gray's vision for FAMU football resonates strongly with the HBCU community. As an alumnus, he understands the deep-rooted traditions and the sense of pride that come with representing an institution like Florida A&M University. By emphasizing discipline, accountability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, Gray is not only building a winning program but also instilling values that will serve his players well long after their time on the gridiron.

The HBCU community takes great pride in the rich history and legacy of its athletic programs. Gray's commitment to educating his players on the Rattler legends who came before them is a testament to his understanding of the significance of HBCU sports. As the Rattlers embark on a new era under Gray's leadership, HBCUConnect is excited to see how this team embraces the challenge of upholding FAMU's storied tradition while forging a new path forward.
