For example, if you have a modern, high-tech supercar that looks sensational, but only makes 250 horsepower, that would be a huge letdown. However, should a company make a subcompact hatch that produces 250 ponies straight from the factory, that's a major achievement. Of course, how a car handles its power makes a difference, but if you're just glancing at a spec sheet, the powerful subcompact is much more impressive than the underpowered supercar, even though they both make the same amount of grunt. Minivans fall into the "impressive with less" category. In the grand scheme of things, the minivan was never meant to dominate racetracks or set its tires alight in a race between the lights. It's meant to ferry a bunch of kids - as well as a bunch of stuff - around as comfortably and practically as possible. That means performance, namely power output, usually takes a backseat. However, just a few years ago, Toyota managed to build the most powerful series-production minivan ever devised, the 2017-2020 Toyota Sienna, with nearly 300 horsepower at its disposal.
