Howard University Alumna Launches Dentrogen, Pioneering Preventative Oral Health Company

Howard University Alumna Launches Dentrogen, Pioneering Preventative Oral Health Company
Posted By: Will Moss on March 12, 2026

Dr. Abiola Oladele, a Howard University graduate and Nigerian-American dentist, is revolutionizing the oral health industry with the launch of Dentrogen, a preventative oral care company that officially debuted in late January. The innovative venture represents a significant milestone in an industry where Black dentists comprise only 3.7% of professionals, according to the Delta Dental Institute.

The Howard alumna, who earned her bachelor's degree from the prestigious HBCU, developed the concept for Dentrogen in 2022 while working at a dental practice in Los Angeles. Her vision extends beyond traditional dentistry to create accessible oral health solutions that consumers can use at home.

Key Takeaway: Dr. Oladele joins a small but growing cohort of Black dental professionals working to transform an industry where representation remains critically low, while simultaneously building innovative solutions for preventative oral care.
"Dentrogen was created with one purpose, to redefine the future of oral care. I'm Dr. Abiola Oladele. And as a dentist, I've seen how innovation in dentistry has stalled. Most people don't realize how much dentistry still relies on outdated tools and thinking. I knew I didn't just want to treat patients, I wanted to change the dental experience."

A New Approach to Oral Wellness

Named after the hydrogen element, Dentrogen positions itself as a "foundational force in the future of oral health," according to the company's website. Dr.

Oladele's approach emphasizes prevention over treatment, focusing on wellness as the ultimate aesthetic goal.

"We can focus on the aesthetics, we can focus on all those things, which is great, but at the end of the day, health is the No. 1 thing that we should all be focusing on before anything else," Dr. Oladele told AfroTech.

The company's initial product lineup includes:

  • Black Fiber Coconut Floss – featuring coconut oil and bamboo for enhanced flossing efficiency
  • Elemental Brightening Toothpaste – a fluoride-free alternative incorporating aloe vera for gum comfort and swelling reduction

All products are developed using science-backed methods designed to address oral health issues at their root, preventing severe problems before they develop.

Future Vision and Expansion

Dr. Oladele plans to expand Dentrogen's offerings in the coming years, with strategic incorporation of artificial intelligence technology. The company is also exploring opportunities in dental manufacturing and supplies, positioning itself as more than just a product line.

"How about health is the aesthetic, having healthy teeth, having teeth that you're not worrying about gum disease, you're not worrying about all these cavities, preventing it before it happens. That's the true beauty. I wanted Dentrogen to kind of showcase that," Dr. Oladele explained.

The entrepreneur emphasized that her venture represents a broader movement toward modernization in an industry she views as relying on outdated approaches. "Oral care can be smarter, cleaner, and better," she added. "Dentrogen isn't just a company, it's a platform for change."

As a Howard University alumna making waves in entrepreneurship and healthcare innovation, Dr. Oladele exemplifies the continued impact of HBCU graduates in addressing gaps in representation while building solutions that serve broader communities.
