HBCU Connect Embraces BlueSky: A New Chapter in Social Media Engagement

HBCU Connect Embraces BlueSky: A New Chapter in Social Media Engagement
Posted By: Will Moss on March 17, 2026
FEATURED Content

After listening carefully to feedback from our valued members and community, HBCU Connect is making a strategic shift in our social media presence. We're excited to announce our growing focus on BlueSky, a platform that better aligns with our mission of creating supportive spaces for HBCU students, alumni, and professionals.

Why the Change?

Over the past year, we've received increasing feedback from our community expressing concerns about the direction and atmosphere on X (formerly Twitter).

Many of our members have shared that the platform's evolving content policies, algorithm changes, and the proliferation of divisive political rhetoric have made it a less welcoming space for professional networking and meaningful career discussions.

As the political landscape has shifted, particularly with the incoming administration's focus on initiatives like DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and broader policy changes, many in our community have voiced concerns about feeling unwelcome or unsafe in spaces where extreme viewpoints dominate the conversation.

Our members' voices matter. When the people we serve tell us a platform no longer feels like a safe or productive space for their professional growth, we listen.

Why BlueSky?

BlueSky represents a fresh approach to social media that prioritizes:

  • Community-focused conversations — Less algorithm manipulation, more authentic engagement
  • Professional networking opportunities — A growing space for meaningful career connections
  • Diverse voices — A platform where HBCU professionals can share their experiences without fear
  • Quality over quantity — Thoughtful discussions rather than viral outrage

We've already begun building our presence on BlueSky and have been impressed by the quality of engagement and the welcoming atmosphere for professionals from diverse backgrounds.

How You Can Support This Transition

We need our community's help to make this transition successful:

  • Follow us on BlueSky: @hbcuconnect.bsky.social
  • Engage with our content — Like, share, and comment on our posts
  • Share your own HBCU story — Tag us in your professional updates and achievements
  • Invite your network — Encourage other HBCU professionals to join BlueSky and follow us
  • Participate in conversations — Help us build a vibrant professional community

Our Commitment Remains Strong

While our social media strategy is evolving, our commitment to serving the HBCU community remains unchanged. We will continue to:

  • Provide the largest database of HBCU talent for employers nationwide
  • Share career opportunities, job postings, and professional development resources
  • Celebrate the achievements of HBCU students and alumni
  • Connect our community with employers who value diversity and inclusion

This transition to BlueSky isn't just about changing platforms — it's about creating a space where our community can thrive professionally without the distractions and divisiveness that have come to characterize other social media environments.

Join us on BlueSky today! Visit bsky.app/profile/hbcuconnect.bsky.social and be part of building something better for the HBCU community.

Together, we're not just changing platforms — we're building the future of professional networking for HBCU talent. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us create spaces where every member of our community can succeed.
