The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference recognized outstanding performances on the tennis court this week, honoring two standout student-athletes from MEAC member institutions for their exceptional play.

North Carolina Central University senior Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was named the MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while Norfolk State University freshman Yana Klimchuk earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday from its headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.

Key Takeaway: Two HBCU student-athletes continue to make their mark in MEAC women's tennis, showcasing the depth of talent across the conference as the spring season progresses.

For Hidalgo Vega, the recognition marks another milestone in her stellar senior campaign with the Eagles.

The accomplished upperclassman has been a cornerstone of North Carolina Central's tennis program, and her latest weekly honor underscores her continued excellence on the court as she approaches the conclusion of her collegiate career.

Meanwhile, Klimchuk's recognition as Rookie of the Week highlights the immediate impact the freshman has made for the Norfolk State Spartans. The award demonstrates that the future of MEAC women's tennis remains bright, with emerging talent ready to carry the torch for years to come.

The dual recognition of these athletes emphasizes the competitive balance and quality of play throughout the MEAC women's tennis ranks. Both North Carolina Central and Norfolk State continue to develop championship-caliber programs that compete at the highest levels of HBCU athletics.

As the spring tennis season enters its critical final stretch, both programs will look to their honored players for continued leadership. Hidalgo Vega's veteran presence and Klimchuk's fresh energy represent the complementary forces driving MEAC tennis forward.

The awards, announced on April 7, 2026, recognize weekly performances across the conference and celebrate student-athletes who exemplify excellence both on and off the court. These honors add to the rich tradition of athletic achievement across HBCU institutions in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
