Four HBCU Powerhouses Advance to MEAC Women
Posted By: Will Moss on April 24, 2026

CARY, N.C. – The 2026 MEAC Women's Tennis Tournament opened with intensity on Thursday, April 23, as four teams punched their tickets to the semifinal round, setting up what promises to be an exciting finish to the conference championship.

Top-seeded Morgan State led the quartet of teams advancing to Friday's semifinals, joined by No. 2 Norfolk State, No. 4 North Carolina Central, and No. 6 South Carolina State. All four programs successfully navigated opening day competition to keep their championship hopes alive.

Key Takeaway: The MEAC Women's Tennis Tournament semifinals will feature an exciting mix of top seeds and underdogs, with South Carolina State's No. 6 seed making a notable run to the final four.

The tournament, being held in Cary, North Carolina, showcases the depth and competitive nature of women's tennis across the MEAC conference.

With the top two seeds advancing as expected, the conference's premier programs demonstrated why they earned their positions atop the standings during the regular season.

Perhaps the most intriguing storyline heading into Friday's semifinals is the presence of South Carolina State, the lowest remaining seed in the field. The No. 6 Bulldogs defied their seeding on opening day, proving that anything can happen in conference tournament play.

North Carolina Central, seeded fourth, also advanced to keep their championship aspirations intact, setting up what should be compelling semifinal matchups on Friday, April 24.

The semifinal round will determine which two teams will compete for the MEAC Women's Tennis Championship, with the winners earning the right to represent the conference on a bigger stage. For these student-athletes, the tournament represents the culmination of months of hard work and dedication to their craft.

As the MEAC tournament continues, fans can expect to see the finest women's tennis the conference has to offer, with each team fighting for conference supremacy and the opportunity to add another chapter to their program's legacy.

The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, April 24, with all eyes on whether the top seeds can maintain their momentum or if the Cinderella run by South Carolina State will continue.
