MEAC Honors Outstanding Track & Field Performers: Hammond and Johnson Earn Weekly Recognition
Posted By: Will Moss on April 24, 2026

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its weekly men's outdoor track and field honors on Wednesday, recognizing exceptional performances from two senior standouts across the conference.

Solomon Hammond of Coppin State University earned Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Christopher Johnson from Delaware State University was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office in Norfolk, Virginia announced on April 22, 2026.

Key Takeaway: Two MEAC seniors from Coppin State and Delaware State have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective track and field programs, showcasing the depth of talent across the conference.

Hammond's recognition marks another achievement for the Coppin State Eagles track and field program as the senior continues to make his mark during the outdoor season.

The Baltimore-based institution has consistently produced quality student-athletes in track and field, and Hammond's weekly honor adds to that legacy.

Meanwhile, Johnson's selection as Men's Field Athlete of the Week brings distinction to the Delaware State Hornets program. As a senior, Johnson is wrapping up his collegiate career with noteworthy performances that have caught the attention of conference officials.

Both athletes join an elite group of MEAC student-athletes recognized throughout the season for their excellence in competition. The weekly honors program highlights the premier performances across the conference as teams compete during the outdoor track and field season.

The MEAC continues to be a showcase for talented student-athletes at HBCUs, with both Coppin State and Delaware State representing the conference with distinction. These weekly recognitions not only celebrate individual achievement but also reflect the commitment of MEAC institutions to athletic excellence.

As the outdoor track and field season progresses, both Hammond and Johnson will look to build on their successful performances and potentially add more accolades before concluding their senior campaigns. The conference championships will provide both athletes with an opportunity to further cement their legacies within their respective programs.
