Virginia Union University proudly celebrates the induction of The Reverend Dr. Rodney D. Waller, Interim Dean of Chapel and VUU alumnus, into the 41st Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers and Laity, Class of 2026. This prestigious honor recognizes distinguished leaders whose work reflects the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service, social justice, and faith-driven leadership. Dr. Waller, who also serves as Senior Pastor of First African Baptist Church in Richmond, has led his congregation for more than 15 years. His journey is rooted in faith, perseverance, and purpose—answering his call to ministry and developing into a transformational leader impacting both church and community. From his early calling to ministry, to his time at Virginia Union University where he further developed his leadership and purpose, Dr. Waller’s story reflects a commitment to service and spiritual growth. A three-time graduate of VUU, he continues to embody the university’s mission of developing leaders grounded in faith, excellence, and social responsibility. His connection to the legacy of Dr. King deepened through mentorship and engagement with Morehouse College, ultimately leading to this national recognition. Dr. Waller describes this honor as a reflection of faith and perseverance, emphasizing that every challenge along his journey helped prepare him for this moment. His induction not only celebrates past achievements—but also reinforces a continued commitment to justice, unity, and leadership in today’s world.
