Eagles Legends Mike Vick and DeSean Jackson Bring HBCU Football Back to Lincoln Financial Field

Two Philadelphia Eagles legends are set to return to their old stomping grounds — this time as HBCU head coaches. Michael Vick of Norfolk State University and DeSean Jackson of Delaware State University will face off at Lincoln Financial Field on October 31, 2026, bringing HBCU football back to the NFL stadium for another historic showdown.

Norfolk State announced Tuesday morning that it would be moving its home game to Philadelphia to recreate the magic of last year's matchup. Kickoff time and additional game day details will be announced at a later date.

“Coming back to Lincoln Financial Field never gets old for me — this is a place that holds a lot of special memories,” Vick said. “Last year's game was a special moment for our program, and to lead our players back onto a field I once called home is something I'll always cherish. Doing it against Delaware State, led by my former teammate and longtime friend DeSean Jackson, adds another exciting chapter to the matchup.”

Vick emphasized the broader significance beyond the friendly rivalry: “It's also an opportunity to celebrate the bands, traditions, and pageantry that make HBCU football special.”

A Rematch Worth Making

The two former NFL stars first met as HBCU coaches last year, with Jackson's Delaware State squad emerging victorious in what was a home contest for the Hornets. That game drew a reported attendance of over 47,000, demonstrating the tremendous appeal of the matchup.

“Me and Vick, we intended for it to be a classic,” Jackson told HBCU Gameday at MEAC Media Day.

For this year's game, Norfolk State agreed to move its home game to Philadelphia — a decision that required buy-in from university leadership. Dr. Melody Webb, Norfolk State's Vice President and Director of Athletics, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity.

“Returning to Lincoln Financial Field is a tremendous moment for Norfolk State University, our football program, and our student-athletes. Last year showed us just how special this stage can be, and we are thrilled to build on that momentum. We are excited to bring our fans, alumni, and the entire HBCU community back together to showcase the excellence of Norfolk State University.”

Double HBCU Action in Philadelphia

The announcement comes alongside news that another HBCU game will take place at the venue on the same day. A CIAA matchup between Virginia Union and Lincoln University is scheduled for October 31, 2026, making it a full day of HBCU football in Philadelphia.

Both coaches experienced contrasting debut seasons. Norfolk State went 1-11 in Michael Vick's first season at the helm, while Delaware State posted an impressive 8-4 record, finishing as the MEAC runner-up under DeSean Jackson.

As both programs continue to build under their legendary coaches, the October 2026 matchup promises to be another celebration of HBCU excellence, tradition, and the enduring bonds between former teammates now leading the next generation.
