PLC Detroit and Logitech Open New Pathway Into Gaming, Product Design and Technology

PLC Detroit and Logitech Open New Pathway Into Gaming, Product Design and Technology
Posted By: P C on August 25, 2026

First-of-its-kind, eight-week Industry Certificate Program gives 25 emerging creatives nationwide the opportunity to reimagine gaming through design, culture and lifestyle

Gaming is bigger than what happens on the screen, and a new collaboration between Pensole Lewis College of Business & Design (PLC Detroit) and Logitech is giving emerging creatives an opportunity to explore the people, products and experiences that help shape gaming culture.

Applications are now open for the PLC Detroit × Logitech Industry Certificate Program, a first-of-its-kind, eight-week program offering just 25 seats across five creative tracks.
At the center of the program is one powerful brief: Everything But the Game.

Rather than focusing on what gamers play, participants will be challenged to explore everything that surrounds, supports and expresses a gamer's identity, from the accessories they use and the furniture they sit on to the apparel they wear and the peripherals they reach for.

The application period runs now through Sept. 20, 2026.

Looking Beyond the Screen

Gaming has grown into a cultural, social and lifestyle phenomenon, creating opportunities for creatives whose talents extend well beyond game development or playing professionally.

The PLC Detroit × Logitech Industry Certificate Program is designed to expose participants to that broader ecosystem.

Students may apply in one of five tracks:
1. Industrial Design
2. CMD (Color + Material Design)
3. Brand Design
4. Packaging/Graphic Design
5. Product Marketing

Participants will work within a framework designed by Logitech and explore product categories including mice, mousepads, keyboards, headsets, racing wheels, microphones, chairs and controllers.

Each category presents an opportunity to think beyond function and consider something larger: Who are gamers, how do they express themselves and how can design enhance the culture and lifestyle surrounding the gaming experience?

That approach gives participants the opportunity to apply their creativity to real product categories while gaining greater insight into how different disciplines contribute to the development, positioning and marketing of products.

Bringing Emerging Creatives Closer to Industry

The Logitech program continues an approach PLC Detroit has been advancing for years by bringing globally recognized brands directly into the educational experience.

PLC Detroit's model emphasizes learning by doing, giving emerging creatives opportunities to work on real-world projects, interact with industry professionals and develop portfolios that demonstrate what they can do.

That connection is especially important for people trying to enter competitive creative industries. Employers increasingly want candidates who understand more than theory. They want talent capable of thinking critically, collaborating across disciplines, solving problems and applying creative skills to real business challenges.

The Logitech Industry Certificate Program creates an environment where participants can begin developing that experience before entering the workforce.

"As the creative economy continues to evolve, education must evolve with it," said Dr. D'Wayne Edwards, president of PLC Detroit. "Our partnership with Logitech reflects our shared commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers by giving them direct access to industry, real-world experience and the opportunity to solve the kinds of challenges they'll encounter as creative professionals. This is workforce development in action."

Creating Access Beyond Detroit

The program also extends PLC Detroit's reach beyond its Detroit campus.
Through ePLC, PLC Detroit's online platform, emerging creatives from across the country can access industry-driven educational opportunities without having to relocate to Detroit.

For an HBCU with a 97-year legacy, that ability to extend access carries particular significance.

PLC Detroit is Michigan's only HBCU and the nation's only design-focused HBCU. Its approach is centered on connecting creative talent with industry and creating pathways into fields that can otherwise be difficult to enter.

The Logitech collaboration expands that work into gaming and technology while introducing participants to career possibilities they may not have previously considered.

The gaming industry offers opportunities that extend far beyond playing games or creating content. Designers shape the products gamers use, brand strategists develop the campaigns that introduce them to consumers, creative teams bring packaging to life, product marketers connect innovation with audiences, and industrial designers determine how technology looks, feels and functions. All of these creative disciplines play a role in shaping the gaming experience.

Where Creative Talent Meets Career Possibility

For many emerging professionals, one of the greatest barriers to landing a job is also one of the most familiar: Employers want experience, but getting the opportunity to gain that experience can be difficult.

Programs that bring education and industry together can help close that gap.
For the 25 creatives selected for the PLC Detroit × Logitech Industry Certificate Program, the eight-week experience will provide an opportunity to work within an industry-designed framework, strengthen their creative thinking and better understand how their talents can translate into careers.

It also introduces a different way of thinking about gaming careers.

The people shaping the future of gaming aren't limited to those developing or playing the games. They are also designing the products, building the brands, creating the visual identities, developing the packaging and determining how innovations connect with consumers.

Five tracks. One program. One opportunity to look at everything but the game.
Backed by the global reach of Logitech and the 97-year legacy of Michigan's only HBCU, the program represents another pathway for emerging creatives ready to turn their talent into industry experience.

Applications for the PLC Detroit × Logitech Industry Certificate Program are open now through Sept. 20, 2026.

Only 25 seats are available.
