From Campus to Career: Truist Ascent Creates an Immersive Experience for HBCU Talent
|
Posted By: Roger Gates on October 19, 2026 For students preparing to transition from college into the professional world, access can make all the difference — access to leaders, to professional networks, to honest career conversations, and to real opportunities to put hard-earned skills into practice. Earlier this month in Charlotte, Truist brought all of those elements together through Truist Ascent: Immersion, a multi-day experience designed to prepare the next generation of HBCU talent for the demands and opportunities of the workforce. Held at Truist's Charlotte headquarters, the program welcomed a cohort of standout students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities for an intensive, hands-on look at what it takes to build a thriving career in corporate America. The experience was built around a simple but powerful premise: when ambitious students are given genuine access to the people, tools, and conversations that drive business, they are empowered to see themselves as the leaders they are becoming.
What the Immersion experience delivered:
Throughout the multi-day program, participants worked alongside Truist teammates and leaders, tackling business problem-solving exercises that mirrored the kind of challenges professionals face every day. These weren't abstract case studies — they were opportunities for students to put their skills into practice, test their thinking, and receive candid feedback from experienced mentors who had walked the same path from campus to career. Just as important as the technical and professional skill-building were the honest career conversations that happened in between sessions. Students heard directly from leaders about navigating the early years of a career, finding mentors and sponsors, building a personal brand, and bringing their full, authentic selves to the workplace. That kind of candid access — the sort that is often hardest for first-generation and early-career professionals to find — sat at the very heart of the Immersion experience. Truist Ascent: Immersion is the latest chapter in Truist's ongoing commitment to HBCU communities and to cultivating a pipeline of diverse, well-prepared talent. By investing in students before they ever reach the job market, Truist is not only strengthening its own future workforce but also affirming the immense value that HBCU graduates bring to the business world.
