3 Part Series: "Living Single"

3 Part Series: "Living Single"
Posted By: WILLIAM W. HEMMANS III on July 18, 2006

When it comes to singles, whether you're gloriously or gruesomely single; you probably can be categorized in one of three groups: the frustrated; the foolish; or the fulfilled. Let's explore...

THE FRUSTRATED SINGLE

If you often find yourself angry, disappointed, disturbed, hurt and irritable during this or other holiday seasons, you are probably harboring feelings of loneliness brought on by your lack of appreciation of your state of singleness. You often regret the fact that you are without a "significant other." If this is you, be encouraged by contemplating the idea that even in your state of frustration, there is something worse then being without a significant other; it's called being with the wrong one!

If you're single and not involved in a relationship, do not allow yourself to be controlled by feelings of aloneness; don't be paralyzed by feeling unfulfilled. Remind yourself that you are still a wonderful person in a unique seasonal position. During this season you should seize the opportunity to prune, purge and purify yourself as you prepare to fulfill your purpose.

In her new book, Unveiling the Diva Mystique, Michelle McKinney Hammond writes, "We are all created with immense purpose.

To grow and contribute something of lasting value to the world, to others, and to those we love is our greatest heart cry. It will not be silenced and the pressing question, "Who am I and why am I here?" will persist until we find our place and have done something that mattered. Even Jesus did not feel fufilled until He had completed what He was sent for, telling His disciples after His encounter with the woman at the well, "I have food you know not of, My meat is to do the will of My father who sent Me." He was energized every time He shared with someone and they got it. It fed Him to give light and life to others. There is something that satisfies us more than the food we eat, the trinkets we acquire, or even the accolades some have the good fortune to collect. It is living up to the fullness of our God-given purpose knowing it and doing it."

Mr. or Ms. Single Person, pursue your purpose! Don't frustratingly seek to erase your singleness through dating or marriage. A change of status alone will never fulfill you as long as you are unaware of your purpose.
Embrace your singleness by pursuing your purpose and your singleness will be erased for you.
