How the young view crime and punishment
|
Posted By: kevin Williams on July 22, 2006 Crime and Punishment in the Eyes of the Young. As I watched over the visiting hall entrance, I saw the young and old, I saw the strong and disable enter into the gates of prison. Each came with different hopes and dreams for the loved ones inside the walls of the prison. My job was to protect the boundaries of the prison walls against any attempted breach. As I watched over the activities going on below me because I was a tower officer watching for anything that violated the safety of prisons inhabits and the safety of the public. I stood on the cat-walk with a shotgun in my hand and a pistol on my side. I felt the pride of the responsibility of my position as a senior corrections officer making sure that everyone was safe and unharmed. I felt that the visitors that came to the prison to see their love ones felt that we as officers protected them and their love ones inside the prison. As I looked over the gates entrance, I noticed a child looking up towards me. I though he was feeling that I was watching over him for his safety as he enter through the gates, but as he came closer towards the entrance he had tears in his eyes. I though he was sad because his love one had broken some laws that was established by society, but as he and his mother came closer I heard him say, “That man up there won’t let my daddy come home.” By Kevin M.
