I don't know if you know, but....

Posted By: Jimmie Lee Gibson Jr. on August 06, 2006 What's goin' on HBCUconnect? I've been away for a while, but I'm back to share something that I thought was pretty interesting. Feel free to leave your comments and enjoy...... ----------------------------------- I was sitting in the church a few weeks ago during the praise and worship portion of service. As the team was singing.....the praise dancers came up and began to dance. So, as I watched them dance, the first thought that immediately came to my mind was joy. But not just any joy......stagnant joy. Now, this is not directed at the dancers because they seemed to be quite the opposite of this.....they just happened to be the spark. I saw the joy upon their faces as they danced their dance before the Lord and I thought of all of the people that say that they have "joy". All of the people who don't realize that they have a mutant form of joy. They have a stagnant joy. Now.....what is stagnant joy? Stagnant joy is a type of joy that is only present when someone is in a certain physical place. Just for the sake of simplicity, we'll stick with those who say they are joyful when they're in the Lord's house. It's all smiles and praises when they're in the church building on Sunday, but by Tuesday.....they hate their job, their wives, their husbands, their children, etc. But what they don't realize is that they have a joy that doesn't move. What good is that? When you really need it, you don't have it because you can't take yours with you. When you have real joy....you take the Lord with you, inside of your heart and mind always so that you can find joy in any situation and in any location. It shouldn't be dependant on a particular seat in a particular building and if you don't have it, you can't be happy. Stagnant joy is a waste of time.....it's worse than actually being miserable because if you're miserable, at least you're searching for a way to have real joy. It's kind of like buying a new Cadillac ....with no engine. It sits in the driveway and looks pretty but it doesn't move or serve the purpose it should. It's just a front for others......totally a waste..... If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
