Men’s Fashion Blunders
(Part 1)
Crimes Against Fashion: Don’t Get Caught in Public

Men, there are a few long overdue “fashion faux pas” that have we have treated like the preverbal “elephant in the room” and dare not discuss (at least not to your face). Please understand, there is a difference between fashion and personal style. However, I am addressing endless situations of “no taste” only to be followed by years of fashion blunders. No worries…help is on the way!

The Sandal: Just like oil and water, socks and sandals do NOT mix and no man should be caught wearing them together. Perhaps you saw this combination on another man and thought it was a clever match…wrong! The next time you see this fashion error, be a good Samaritan and save this poorly dressed city dweller from being fashionably shunned for life.

Dress Pants and Sneakers: Men, don’t spoil a good thing! Dress pants are “dressy” for a reason. No matter how good the sneaker looks, don’t disrespect the dress pant by tossing on “clunky white sneakers” (TT, 2006) It is OK to leave the sneakers at home and sport your dress shoes (Kenneth Cole, Prada, Cole Haan…etc.)

Baggy Clothes: Granted…there are many music entertainers that have the “long baggy” style and it looks great on TV celebrities “who also sport XXXL shirts that hang down to their knees” (TT, 2006), but let’s face it…if you don’t have a record deal…try finding jeans and shirts that actually fit you! The baggy pant made its initial statement in 1992. There’s nothing sexy about watching an adult male stop in the middle of the sidewalk to pull up his pants before they crumple around his knees.

Bright Colored Sneakers: Be careful with the sneaker colors you chose to sport about town. Some colors are only “good for is stopping traffic [and should be] banned from sneaker colors” (TT, 2006). Remember, there is a fine line between being fashionable and being tacky.

Sunglasses at Night: This one is a “no brainer”. Other than appearing a tad bit disrespectful, sunglasses were invented to “block the sun” not to be worn at night or indoors. Guys, trust me on this one…ditch the sunglasses when there is no sun around. Women want to “gaze” into your eyes while you whisper “sweet nothings”.

Perhaps your not a trendsetter or a follower of fads, but it doesn’t hurt to be aware of a few fashion violations to keep you out of trouble with the fashion police.

Your comments are interesting. They tell you what not to do and not 'what to do". So does it help? Who decided that socks and sandals are not chic on every man. What about the sisters who wear those dreadfully pointed (and ugly I might add) pumps with jeans? Help them too! All fads are not for African Americans. Also tell the brothers, if they have ugly feet..........then by all means.......please put some socks on with you sandals. I agreed with the other stuff you said.

True True True, thats all I can say but I have to disagree with Art. If your feet are jacked up, by all means wear closed toe sandals not socks.

True that, true that! I believe brothers and sisters have allowed video's to define what's cool. What happened to individuality; set your own style. And about those sandals, if your feet are jacked up, don't wear sandals; period. Everything is not made for everybody. But sisters, please. I know you love those cute size 4 sandals but if your feet are a size 6; you know the deal. There’s nothing cute about a sister wearing sandals to small.
