Bowie State University Foundation Officers Win Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award

Bowie, Maryland (www.bowiestate.edu) – The Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs and The Daily Record announced that Timothy J. Adams, BSU Foundation Chairman and President/CEO of Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH), M. A. “Mike” Little, BSU Foundation Treasurer and President/CEO of B&W Solutions, Inc., and Jacqueline W. Sales, BSU Foundation Officer and President of HAZMED, have been named three of Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Enterprises for 2006. The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Inn and Conference Center at University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland on Friday, October 27, 2006.

SA-TECH is a progressive and steadily growing, professional services firm, providing quality products and services to a wide range of clients for over 17 years. Their origins are in the high technology area of the defense industry, however, the services they offer have expanded into other diverse areas such as homeland security services, engineering technical services, logistics services, facilities management, and investigative services. They have also supported facility operations and management; information technology; and investigative and protective services. They have over 500 full-time technical, management, and administrative personnel including in-house systems engineers, technicians, logisticians, investigators, and other highly-skilled technical professionals who strive to provide exceptional customer service by using leading-edge technologies and the latest automated tools. The company, which is headquartered in Landover, Maryland, with additional operational offices in Oxnard, California, was incorporated in 1989 and received its certification in 1991 as a small disadvantaged business.

SA-TECH founder Timothy J. Adams states, “I made the decision to become an entrepreneur based on having a vision to fill a void in the market place. Through hard work, that vision and dream has become a reality and in turn has impacted the lives of our employees, customers and community. Over the past seventeen years, we have demonstrated our ability to grow and sustain success.”

B&W Solutions, Inc. is a unique company of three service organizations that provides hands-on experts in the fields of human resources management, professional development, and community and business relations. Founded in 1997 as B&W Technologies, Inc., B&W quickly became one of the fastest growing HR management firms serving federal government needs.

Today B&W offers unrivaled comprehensive service packages to both governmental entities and the private sector. The federal human resources division operates as two separate enterprises under the B&W umbrella—Human Resources Specialists and Professional Development Center—and serves as a premier outsourcing vehicle for government agencies and training contractors throughout the United States.

Working with real estate developers, area businesses and local officials, the community and business relations arm is a catalyst for strengthening economic development in specific counties and regions.

“It is an extreme honor and pleasure to be recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Enterprises for 2006,” said Mike Little, president and CEO of B&W Solutions, Inc. “Any success B&W achieves is attributed to the quality of the employees who work here and the outstanding job performance they deliver. The Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs should be commended for acknowledging and honoring minority and women entrepreneurs in the state of Maryland. I extend best wishes to all of the winners.”

Headquartered in Lanham, Maryland, HAZMED is a woman-owned environmental engineering and information technology consulting firm providing government and commercial clients with best practices professional support to meet their environmental and operational objectives. The organization offers a corporate culture that demands quality, rewards excellence, and promotes teamwork and has a proven track record of technical accomplishments, client success, and growth. HAZMED’s record of outstanding performance has earned the company an excellent reputation for offering sound technical and professional advice on projects related to environmental compliance, waste management, training, and information technology.

The organization was founded in 1988 and has grown nationally with a staff of over 100 professionals in eight field and project offices: Las Vegas, NV; Fort Campbell, KT; Rock Island Arsenal, IL; Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Burlington, VT; St. Louis, MO; Washington, D.C.; and Atlanta, GA.

HAZMED President Jacqueline Sales said, “I am truly honored to be one of the recipients of this award. This award would not be possible without the dedication, excellence in performance and quality,
customer and community commitment, and the professionalism of HAZMED’s Executive Team and staff. We are proud to represent the accomplishments of minority businesses in Prince George’s County.”

A panel of distinguished judges chose Timothy J. Adams, M. A. “Mike” Little, and Jacqueline W. Sales as entrepreneurs who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in four key areas: business development, client satisfaction, professional affiliations and community outreach.
