STANDARDS VS CRITERIA

Posted By: Stephen Watts on November 10, 2006 IN WAKE OF RECENT CONVERSATIONS OVER THE NET, I THINK IT SHOULD BE POINTED OUT THAT WE'RE DOING OURSELVES IN BIGTIME. WE DO THIS BY LETTING OUR CRITERIA BE THE DECIDING FACTOR IN WHO WE CHOOSE TO LET HAVE OUR HEART IN A REALTIONSHIP. THIS BEING THE CASE, HOW MUCH IS OUR HEART TRULY INVOLVED IN THE EQUATION? CRITERIA IS SAYING THAT HE/SHE REALLY WON'T BE CONSIDERED UNLESS THEY HAVE THIS AND THAT AND EVERY OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL THING. PRIME EXAMPLE, PASSING UP AN OTHERWISE VERY ACCEPTABLE PERSON B/C SHE'S A VIRGIN, OR B/C HE'S NOT ROLLING ON 22'S AND CAN'T TREAT YOU EVERY WEEK. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. STANDARDS, ON THE OTHER HAND, ARE MET BY THINGS THAT YOU CAN'T SEE. A PERSON DRIVEN TO GET BETTER, RESPECTFUL, PASSIONATE, SUPPORTFUL AND OF COURSE LOVING ARE SOME THINGS THAT OUR CRITERIA WON'T LET US EVEN GIVE A PERSON AN OPPERTUNITY TO SHOW. WE ALREADY CROSSED THEM OFF, AND IT'S NOT TILL THEY'RE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE WE KNOW VERY WELL THAT WE THINK ABOUT WHAT WE MAY HAVE MISSED OUT ON. THINK ABOUT THE THINGS THAT MAKE A RELATIONSHIP WORK, THAT'S THE GLUE. IF YOU THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND YOU CAME UP WITH HOW WELL THEY SEX, THE MONEY THEY MAKE OR HOW MUCH OF A PUSHOVER THEY ARE LET ME TELL YOU THAT GLUE WON'T BE STICKING TOO WELL AND NEITHER WILL YOUR RELATIONSHIP. THINGS LIKE THAT CAN BE FOUND ANYWHERE, SO WHEN THE RELATIONSHIP GET'S PUT TO THE TEST THE GRADE WILL BE AN F B/C THEY OR YOU GOT THE ANSWERS FROM SOMEONE ELSE. BOTTOMLINE, JUST BE REAL AND KNOW THAT CRITERIA IS A WANT THING. JUST THE SAME IT CAN BE THROWN OUT THE WINDOW AND YOU CAN STILL HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP. STANDARDS SHOULD NEVER BE DROPPED FOR ANYONE. THINK OF IT LIKE THIS, IF YOU DROP YOUR STANDARDS, YOU GET INTO A RELATIONSHIP THAT YOU KNOW IS BAD FOR YOU, B/C YOU FOUND SOMEONE WHO FIT YOUR CRITERIA. IF YOU DROP YOUR CRITERIA YOU GET IN A BETTER RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE WHO MEETS STANDARDS IN ALOT MORE BOOKS THAN YOURS. YOU CHOOSE.
