Posted By: Jehan Bunch on January 03, 2007 HBCU Connect.com recently sat down with Everett Ingram. Everett is the first person to be hired through HBCU Connect.com’s Employment Program with the Administrative Resource Center and Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Everett shared his experience about the hiring process and his future plans with the company. 1. What HBCU did you attend? I attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL. 2. What was your experience like in college? I had a great experience. I wouldn't do anything differently. I feel that Tuskegee gave me the best opportunity to be successful, and I made lots of friends. 3. What did you major in? Electrical Engineering was my major. 4. How did you find out about HBCU Connect Employment Program with the Bureau of Public Debt? I found out about the program by visiting the HBCU Connect website. I got an e-mail notification that I found interesting, and I went to check it out. 5. How long was the hiring process? My hiring process was about 2 months. I had a telephone interview in May, and I flew to Parkersburg for a personal interview in July. I got hired a few days later. 6. How did you feel when you found out you got hired? I was excited and grateful at the same time when I got hired. 7. When did you start working at the Bureau of Public Debt? August 21 was my first day with Public Debt. 8. What do you do? What exactly is your role? I am a technician, and I support the Oracle Financials Application and Software. 9. What was your first day like? My first day was basically orientation. I started filling out forms at 8 am, and ended about 12. My supervisor and branch manager took me to lunch immediately after, and I spent the rest of the afternoon meeting my co-workers. 10. What has your transition been like in a new city? What is Parkersburg, West Virginia like? My new area isn't too different than my hometown. It’s a smaller, quiet, community with lots of natural beauty. I actually live in Marietta, Ohio. It’s on the border with West Virginia. The community isn't very diverse, but the people have been very friendly. 11 What have you learned so far? I've learned the benefits of working for the Federal Government, and I've learned alot about my specific position. 12.What do you foresee your future like with the Bureau of Public Debt? I feel that I have a bright future with Public Debt. My position allows many opportunities for growth and advancement, and I'm looking forward to growing within the agency.
