The Pre Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program at Bowen
|
Posted By: Aaron Taylor on February 02, 2007 Are you a college freshman, sophomore, or junior who is interested in attending law school? If so, the Pre Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program may be the perfect opportunity for you to explore your interest! This summer, 20-25 college students will be selected to participate in the PLUS Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. The PLUS Program is a 4-week residential summer program, funded by a grant from the Law School Admission Council, where participants are taught important fundamentals to law school and LSAT success. The 2007 program at the Bowen School of Law will take place June 3 through June 29. The primary purpose of the PLUS Program is to help increase the number of law students from historically underrepresented groups. To that end, the program is open to the following persons: • Those belonging to groups historically underrepresented in law school; • Those attending historically black colleges or universities (HBCUs); • Those attending American Indian tribal colleges; • Those attending predominantly Hispanic colleges or universities; and • Those who have experienced significant economic or educational disadvantages. Scholars spend the duration of the program taking part in various activities that will expose them to the rigors of law school and prepare them for the LSAT. Program activities will take place in the classroom and in “the field” in seeking to fully engage participants. Participants will be provided room, board, and a yet to be determined stipend ($850 in 2006). Scholars will be chosen based on two primary criteria: eligibility as set out above and the strength of their personal statements. Other factors such as performance in relevant academic courses may also be considered. The application deadline is April 15. Early applications are encouraged, as selection of Scholars will begin March 1. It is important to understand that the PLUS Program is not a mere summer camp. It is a rigorous and intensive law school/LSAT prep program that will challenge Scholars mentally and intellectually. Scholars will work hard; but the experience will be highly rewarding.
