The decision comes after Miles College self reported to the NCAA and the SIAC that they had played an ineligible player on their team during the 2006 football season. As a result, Miles had to forfeit all of its victories, including a 20-31 win over Tuskegee University. With the forfeit Tuskegee’s record changed from a 5-2 conference record to 6-1, creating a tie in the SIAC standings. Although Tuskegee defeated Albany State this past season the decision was made not to penalize Albany State, by taking their championship away, because they played no part in the violation within the conference. After much discussion amongst Commissioner William E. Lide and the President’s Council, the SIAC decided that Tuskegee and Albany State University would be declared Co-Champions, even though tie breaking procedures do exist during the finish of regular season play. The declaration gives Tuskegee University their 25th SIAC Championship and their first since the 2002 season. SIAC Commissioner William E. Lide stated “This was a win-win decision for all parties involved, stated SIAc Commissioner William Lide. "Not only did we award the correct teams the championship but we also ensured the validity of the conference’s compliance program and enforced the rules and regulations of the conference and NCAA. We are proud of our Pioneer Bowl Champion, Tuskegee University, as well as Albany State University on their participation in the NCAA Playoffs. We applaud a tremendous season by both teams.” Albany State keeps their SIAC title streak in tact with their 4th consecutive championship. Tuskegee picks up their 25th SIAC Championship and their first since the 2002 season giving Coach Willie Slater a SIAC Co-Championship and Pioneer Bowl victory in his first season as head coach.
