Atlanta Playmate Held In Cocaine Bust
|
Posted By: Jimmy Jones on May 02, 2007 Charleston, SC - A Playboy playmate from Atlanta was arrested in South Carolina on drug trafficking charges after police say a cleaning of her hotel room turned up a kilo of cocaine. The playmate, Kia Drayton, 24, and Otis Leon Story, 33, also from Atlanta, were taken into custody Wednesday as they left their room at the Renaissance Hotel where the drugs were found, according to a North Charleston Police Department report. Police say when they searched the gold Cadillac Escalade Drayton was driving, they found two handguns, a .40-caliber Glock 22 and a .357-caliber Glock 32. Police said they seized 1,138 grams of cocaine. Both also are charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Their bail was set at $2.2 million each and they remained in jail Friday morning. Drayton, the December 2006 Playboy Playmate of the Month, identified herself as an employee of the men's magazine during an arraignment hearing. A spokesperson for Playboy refused comment Friday evening. According to the police report, hotel management called police Tuesday after a housekeeper found a brick-shaped package covered in duct tape in Drayton's hotel room. A hotel employee told police he opened the package and found a white powdery substance. Police said tests showed the substance was cocaine. Police watched the hotel and saw Drayton and Story entering the room. The police report says investigators stopped Story when they saw him walk out of the hotel room holding a black duffle bag. The bag contained a white substance, according to the report. Rick Hughes, an Atlanta-based television producer who said he's worked with Drayton, said he was surprised by the charges. "She's a sweet girl," he said. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
