Road Trippin'
|
Posted By: Taj George on May 14, 2007 Last week Elena from Philly wrote to me and asked: We don't hear you sing too much on the show, but I want to know when are you going to start on your solo project? The truth is, I won't be doing a solo project anytime soon. I have invested so much time into my family, Eddie's VIP foundation, my book and this show that I really haven't had time to consider it. I can't remember the last time I've had a nice Calgon bath! Usually, the only time I can get a little rest and quiet time is when Eddie spends time with the boys and does things like take them to get a haircut, like you saw in the episode, Road Trippin. I especially appreciate the quiet moments it affords me. While I am the primary caregiver and disciplinarian around the house, Eddie is always there to back me up. He feels young boys in general need to have a strong male figure to look up to. But, Eddie is a trip when it comes handling the boys. I remember one time when he decided to take our son, Eriq, to the mall when he was just 8 months old. Needless to say, when I finally found them two in the mall they were a sight to see - picture Eddie walking around the Beverly Center with a baby carrier strapped on his chest and Eriq inside of it holding an empty bottle, and wearing a milk-stained shirt, no socks or jacket and his hair standing straight up on his head. They looked a mess, but adorable. So that is why when Eddie took the boys for a haircut on the show, I had to give him specific instructions. When I'm not with my boys, I'm usually working with Visions with Infinite Possibilities, a non-profit organization that my husband created to foster the artistic abilities in children. When I took over the foundation, I added to its mission helping women and children of domestic violence because that is something that I dealt with as a child with my drug-addicted stepfather. I also dealt with it as a young adult with an abusive boyfriend. I wanted to speak to women about the abuse I endured to show them that just because you are going through a horrible situation; it doesn't have to take over your dreams. To get the word out, Katrina and I decided to do a tour with the foundation and I asked Lelee to come along with me because she had such an amazing story to tell, as well. The tour was so moving for me. The women we met really appreciated hearing our stories - we would cry and laugh and share stories of survival. It was awesome! If you have a story of survival, or would like to know more about VIP, then please send me an e-mail - I'm checking the inbox every week. And don't forget to tune in to I Married a Baller next week when I spend some quality time with my best friends and family. The show comes one Saturdays at 10 p Eastern. Until then, be blessed as always - Taj If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
