"HBCU Caribbean Classic" Basketball Tournament

Posted By: Derrick L Woods on July 09, 2007 Prairie View A&M first to Join “Field of Dreams” at "2008" HBCU Caribbean Classic CANCUN, MEXICO – Tournament operator Boss Productions announced this week that SWAC Conference member and recent NCAA Tournament competitor Prairie View A&M University is the first to pledge its participation in what potentially could be the finest field ever assembled for an early season HBCU basketball tournament – the 1st Annual "HBCU Caribbean Classic" Invitational Men's College Basketball Tournament will featuring a total of six-first year participants. The HBCU Caribbean Classic will take place December "2008" in Cancun, Mexico inside the intimate 1,200-seat Cancun Center. Situated between the beauty of the turquoise Caribbean Sea and the calm of the Laguna Nichupte, Cancun is an open gate to the dream vacation. It boosts state-of–the-art hotel facilities, the coolest clubs, bars and malls just a few feet away from the most beautiful beaches in the world. Invitations have be issued to all of the traditional top African American Collegiate Conferences such as the SWAC, the MEAC and the SIAC and an outstanding field is slated to hit center court in December for this highly anticipated inaugural event. Expectant in joining the Panthers of Prairie View A&M at this years HBCU Caribbean Classic should come from a stellar Who's, Who list of collegiate programs such as Southern University, Jackson State University, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, Howard University and others, annually some of the best known and top rated HBCU Basketball Programs. Additionally slated are, a Fundraising Golf Tournament to benefit student athlete’s from tournament participating schools with a postgraduate Scholarship as well as to establish a foundation in Cancun to benefit residents recreationally of sorts. Other entertainment and cultural related elements will also be added to round out the weekend in Cancun. Host hotels selections are pending for the great many fans, school alumni and athletic boosters expected to accompany their teams to Cancun this year for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
