Prairie View A&M University Increases Designated Tuition

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas--Prairie View A&M University officials announced today that it will increase its designated tuition by $15.00 per semester credit hour beginning this fall for most university students.

University officials say the slightly higher tuition, combined with state appropriations and internally generated funds, will help cover increased costs associated with the university’s building maintenance costs, a need to enhance distance education offerings, salary increases, enhanced graduate programs, activities to maximize professional licensure success rates and ongoing student recruitment and retention efforts.

“This small increase was necessary to continue to advance the university’s mission. We are constantly seeking ways to impact the quality of teaching and enhance our offerings, which will make a Prairie View degree even more valuable,” stated Prairie View A&M University President George C. Wright.

“We are confident that the expanded educational opportunities for our students and attracting additional talented faculty will prove to be beneficial for all of our stakeholders,” Wright added.

He credits the Texas legislature for granting the university 100 percent hold harmless through formula funding and a number of special items, but recognizes that the small increase in tuition will help the university accomplish its aggressive goal of investing funds in programs and recruitment resources that will help grow the university’s enrollment.

In 2008, the university will embark on the final year of its “Extend the View, Shape Tomorrow Today” capital campaign, which will be grow the university’s total endowment and private student scholarships. Recognizing the need to raise private dollars to support students and university initiatives, the capital campaign is positioning the university for continued growth and future excellence.
