Posted By: Jehan Bunch on August 02, 2007 Research and Development Engineer Job Type: Full Time Salary: Job Categories: Engineering Benefits: Location: State College, PA Relocation Policy: Job Description: The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks candidates for a Research and Development Engineer in the Weapons Systems Engineering Division, part of the Undersea Weapons Office, located in State College, PA. Utilizing the rich array of academic and research assets that ARL has available, the office develops capabilities for the detection and defensive engagement of threat torpedoes. Building on the Laboratorys experience in undersea weapons, Torpedo Defense has been an important core competency of ARL for more than a decade. You will work with end-users (technical staff and engineers) to develop applications that support the NAVSEA acquisition program. The infrastructure is based upon the MatrixOne eMatrix product data management (PDM) system. Your responsibilities will include: Developing requirements; Performing software development, testing, and implementation using the eMatrix development framework (using Java/JSP); Troubleshooting new and existing applications running on the eMatrix system and other related software components (Apache, Tomcast, and Oracle); Performing upgrades to the eMatrix application software and other related software components; and Performing backup and recovery tasks on development and production systems. Job Qualifications/Requirements: This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3, depending upon your education and experience. To be a successful candidate, you should have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requirements include software development and programming skills in Java, JSP, Java Servlets, SQL, and C/C++; System administration on Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server, Web servers and Web application servers; TCP/IP based networking; and Analytical and process engineering skills. Experience in Oracle, RDBMS, MatrixOne eMatrix environment, and defense-related acquisition systems is preferred. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation.
