No Justice in Jena!!!

Posted By: L D Horne on August 30, 2007 "Justice concerns the 'proper' ordering of things and persons within a society" But it seems, in this case, justice is not for those who look like me-obviously Racism is not just a thing of the past "Placism" of the "Jena Six" show racism continues to surpass Time is alive, kicking and well With color being the rationale There, in Jena, trouble was brewing you know Students peacefully demonstrated against "things" Jim Crow A few Black students sat under the "White Tree" I guess them ni**ers got a bit too uppity And you made an example you see -Jena's District Attorney: Reed Walters promised when He said, "I can make your lives disappear with the stroke of a pen." This was his threat to those students who were abused And threatened by those who placed up the noose So how can you sleep at night Reed Walters? Destroying young lives, does your conscience falter? Charged, then, 16 yr old Mychal Bell In an endeavor to make this young man fail Sought charges for attempted murder For a school fight!?! This shouldn't have gone further Than a quick stay in juvenile hall Then again, it shouldn't have gotten that far- At all But the disturbing part Is this process was allowed to start But even in this "information age" atrocities still happen in the dark Soon the world will bear witness to the truth Now the charges have been reduced To aggravated 2nd degree battery, which requires a weapon The powers "that be" need to hurry and step in According to Walter, Nikes are now weapons of course What about, Babes, Reebok, Pumas, Adidas or even Converse Another sad part is Bell was not charged by a jury of his peers Sounds like the same ole' south of yesteryear None of this should have come to head But the racial tension continued instead Because of the bigoted attitudes That continued Imbued-was the spirit of Crow, Jim When you aggressively prosecuted them It's funny because the students who perpetrated the hate crimes At Jena High didn't serve even a minute of time They hung three nooses on the "White Tree" Symbolizing, "Ni**ers, we'll kill you!" without scrutiny Provoking civil disturbance and bigotry Saying it was merely a "prank" and everything is fine Topics as such are taken serious in these days and times Otherwise you end up with a situation like V Tech or Columbine But, it's all fun and games, when the threatened are "mine" Instead, not even a single expulsion The situation was a powder keg, ready for explosion Roy Breithaupt, the superintendent Made the punishment Three days of in-school suspension So obvious were your intensions Quoted as saying, "Adolescents play pranks. I don't think it was a threat to anybody." No media coverage and the parents were not informed therein, oddly So do the math!!! Because all I can do is laugh Not that the racist Justin Barker got beat down But after the "murder attempt" he hit the town Was discharged from the hospital two hours after the fight Just in time for the school Ring Ceremony that night So now young Bell could face 22 years of prison Man, you have got to be kidding... Are you serious!?!?
