Posted By: M Smith on September 19, 2007

Why don't cheaters just leave their partners, or be honest about wanting an open relationship??? What is going on...why do people cheat?

This is a very simple question with real answers that are too complicated for the four choices listed above. I counsel couples that have marital problems and couples planning to get married. Infidelity is the most difficult problem to address, because most of the excuses given for cheating do not get at the root cause of the problem. By far, the first excuse I hear most often is, “I am not fulfilled at home.” However, feelings of non-fulfillment are normally the symptom and not the cause. The cause of these problems normally points towards the cause. I always stress that a person cannot solve a problem (any problem), or better yet avoid repeating the problem, if the true cause is not identified.

I agree with Moultrie and Douglas, but I believe also that folks arent marrying for that deep "in love" and when factuation, communication, and desires wear off or let a lil turbalence hit the relationship. Then folks say they fell out of love and seek their needs from another. Or you have those who married for the sake of a kid. Commitment keeps them with the person, but they funning with someone else. First, I would like you to ask yourselves this question if you have cheated: Why did I do it? What wasn't I receiving from my partner at home? It won't take long for your mind to process the answer because it is on the forefront of your mind. Women cheat because most times they're not happy not fulfilled. s*x with the partner may be okay but for most women it goes deeper. That man (or woman) have you mentally leaving your present situation, trials and tribulations if but for a moment. At that specific time, it's only you and him (or her). Nothing else matters. So don't get it twisted; it's not always about a physical fulfillment at it can be emotional. If it is indeed physical fulfillment, if you are always getting the s*x at home and never ever venturing off "because it's too expensive", Joe will come by and pick up the tab.

I have never cheated, but when the marriage was over I chose to get a divorce.

People cheat because they are not happy with themselves, and are not aware of this problem. Honesty, is the best policy! I am always upfront, when I tell the man- I am going over here, and I still get labeled as a cheat! I am browsing to get exactly all the qualities I deem important in a man. Also, women and men do not know how to communicate. They see and hear, what they want to.

Men cheat because we feel if I can do it and get away with it then im going for it.Plus if it's a woman that he feels he couldn't get before and she gives him some play, it's on and we will do it until the fun goes away or you get caught up.No matter if his wife does everything for him in and out of the bed some men cheat. Women cheat to fill that void in there life, it's called I got the wrong man in my life and I should've got with his freind instead of his dope dealing self.Plus women can live the rest of there life with a man they never loved. It could be money, but alot are afraid to be alone. But white women do this the best. they can be with a man for 100 years and never leave him but sleep with Omar for years.WOW!!!!!!!!!

Men and women cheat because of lack of knowledge, selfishness and often immaturity. A child who is raised to be honest and aware of the value of people and relationships will be far less likely to cheat.

People that cheat are not spending enough time with there family and are selfish to ruin that family bond for the next generation.

People cheat because they are selfish and want to have the best of both worlds. Often a cheater is trying to get everything they want but since no one person is perfect they seek things that one partner lacks in the other as a way of having it all.
