Visa might break records in the market...

Posted By: Lekesha Williams on November 12, 2007 If anyone has been following the market like I have you would have noticed all the buzz surrounding Visa’s announcement of its initial public offering. (OK for my newbies, let me break down the IPO. Basically when a company first releases its stock to the public, it's considered its IPO. Ideally this is the best time to buy the stock because, again ideally, this is when the stock is suppose to be at it's lowest price. After the release of the stock, everybody "IDEALLY" should be trying to get their hands on it, making the stock price increase. Moral of the story, BUY THE DAMN STOCK EARLY SO YOU GET THE LOWEST PRICE! Everybody got it? Ok good!) Now back to VISA. Visa is BOLD. Not only are they bad mouthing the competition and generating more publicity than OJ's new trial, they boast that when their IPO hits the streets, the world will be looking at a $10 billion COMEUP, in what would be the second largest initial public offering of stock in U.S. history. ARE YA'LL HEARING THIS!!! Not only that but Visa's major stockholders are banks. They include: J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., which owns 23.3 percent of the company's Class B Stock; Bank of America Corp., 11.5 percent; National City Corp., 8 percent; Citigroup Inc., 5.5 percent; U.S. Bancorp, 5.1 percent; and Wells Fargo & Co., 5.1 percent. That's a lineup you just can't beat. For those of you that didn't commit suicide last year when you got caught sleeping on MasterCard's IPO you now have a chance to redeem yourself. MasterCard, Visa's biggest rival, hit the market harder than the iphone, selling ridiculously crazy amounts of shares and the DAMN stock hasn’t looked back since. MasterCard went public 18 months ago, pocketing $2.4 billion in the 17th largest IPO in U.S history; MasterCard's shares have bounced by almost fivefold from their IPO price of $39, closing Friday at $193. Need I say more? "Visa didn't specify how much stock would be sold or at what price per share. A proposed ticker symbol wasn't listed either. All that information will emerge in future filings leading up to the IPO." -Associated Press In other worlds, stay on the lookout for more news on this IPO. Side Note: Pay close attention to the price Visa debuts at and compare the price-earnings ratio (P-E) to the price-to-earnings ratio of MasterCard. This might play a role in their stock success.
