Bowie State University Department Chair Receives 2007 Top 100

Daniel University Relations and Marketing 301-322-0157, rdaniel@bowiestate.edu Bowie State University Department Chair Receives 2007 Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award BOWIE, Md.--Shelton Rhodes, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Marketing, Management and Public Administration at Bowie State University and president and CEO of New Millennium Solutions (NMS) of Greenbelt, Md., is the recipient of the 2007 Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award. The award recognizes the region’s most enterprising minority and women business owners and their achievements in business development, client satisfaction, professional affiliations, and community involvement. Rhodes was recognized among the 100 MBE award recipients during a ceremony on November 8, 2007, at the Inn and Conference Center in Adelphi, MD. The University of Maryland University College sponsored the event in conjunction with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and Maryland Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs. “I am most proud of the opportunity to have a business that can make a difference in the community and society. Investing in a mind is priceless,” said Rhodes, who is also the owner of C2 Education Center franchise. “Acquiring a C2 Education Center franchise is one of my greatest business accomplishments because it allows me to impact young lives.” Founded by Rhodes in 1996, NMS provides services to private and public organizations in education, training, research and analysis. Specifically, its C2 Education Center provides tutoring in math, reading, writing, and SAT Prep for K-12 students. Rhodes has chaired the Department of Marketing, Management and Public Administration at Bowie State University since August 2004. The department is a part of the School of Business and prepares undergraduate and graduate students to excel in private, public and nonprofit careers or to become entrepreneurs.
