Lane College Hires New Football Coach
|
Posted By: Will Moss on May 13, 2005 Lane College has hired former Alabama State offensive coordinator Johnnie Cole as its next head football coach. Cole succeeds Darrin Hayes, who left to become an assistant coach at Tuskegee. "This is a great opportunity for me," Cole told the Montgomery Advertiser. "I'm lucky here because I've got a great president who's behind me and supports this team. We're going to do a lot of good things." Cole told the newspaper that his first move as head coach would be to hire his brother, L.C. Cole, as defensive cordinator. The two brothers worked together at Tennessee State, then Alabama State before leaving ASU in 2001. Lane finished the 2004 season at 2-9 and opens the 2005 campaign in Tuscaloosa against Stillman College on Sept. 3.
