Just Us Books Looking for Writers for Middle Reader Series

Posted By: Katura Hudson on July 13, 2008 Just Us Books (www.justusbooks.com) is looking for writers for an established middle reader series targeted to readers 9 to 12 years old. We are looking for writing that exhibits the following: * compelling, realistic and contemporary plot lines that introduce conflict and resolution * high-interest readability * cultural authenticity * Positive images that leave lasting impressions. * Cultural authenticity/cultural specificity. Cultural references should reflect the authentic experiences and background of African Americans. Readers should be able to see that the material is specific to them. * Meaningful stories that reflect a range of African-American values and lifestyles. Stories should include an attitude of respect for our ancestors, as well as give respect and accountability for our audience. To be considered for this project, please send writing samples of work that is targeted to the 9- to 12-year-old readership. Samples should be no more than 10 pages long, and can be excerpts of longer (unpublished) work. NOTE: Samples will NOT be returned. Just Us Books will only respond to those writers who are being considered for this project. Submissions should be sent to: Middle Reader Writer Submission Just Us Books 356 Glenwood Ave. East Orange, NJ 07017 Just Us Books will NOT accept e-mail or fax submissions. Important: Writers we are considering may be asked to draft a short writing sample using the characters of our middle reader series. This writing sample will help us make our final determination of the new writer for this series.
