"Education, the Key to Prosperity."

Posted By: Jeffrey Brown on July 22, 2008 When are, we, as a people, going to start working with our youth to eliminate the lies that are fed to them by the media that prevent them from achieving to thier fullest potential? When are we, going to stand up and fight the idea, pervasive in our youth, that if you are excelling in school, in advanced classes and dominating (academically) you classmates, you are “acting white”. This idea is absurd! Throughout history, we have pushed education when it was forbidden upon pain of death! Even during Jim Crow, we created over 150 colleges to serves our children when the mainstream ones refused to let us in. When mainstream businesses refused our money, we became entrepreneurs and set up thriving districts such as Little Hayti in Durham, North Carolina and Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This all happened, because we educated ourselves, either formally or informally!! Now, after our people fought to open doors to the mainstream of American intellectual life, a thief come in the night to steal the victory and perseverance from our kids; the idea that academic excellence is “acting white”, our ridicule of our brothers and sisters who strive for educational and professional excellence. As they go forward in their academic accomplishments, we have Black idiots taunting them with the label “acting white.” Do not confuse professionalism or academic excellence with “acting white.” One has nothing in the world to do with the other. In fact, those Black folks who do not encourage nor support their fellow Black students or Black businesses are actually the ones “acting white.” They also act white when they do not sound their objections or defend against other races that denigrate their Black brothers and sisters, or when they mistreat their own Black people with the same lies, injustice and incorrectness as white supremacist do. Those who are accusing other of “Acting white,” are simply being niggerish, or, put a better way “stupid”, themselves! I issue a challenge to everyone! Check you state’s, your individual district’s, your child’s school’s status on proficiency tests. You will see an great gap in the performance of black and white students. Check the ACT, SAT, AP, and other tests. With affirmative action about to go off into history and the standards rising, we must reaffirm our intellectual tradition. Start reading (newspaper, books, magazines, etc., use the public library, etc.). As a special treat, give your kids gifts certificates for bookstores. Take your children to museums, galleries, parks, etc. We must challenge the idea promulgated through BET and throughout history that all we do is play sports and rap!! I believe there is no actual one way to get through to our youth but know that TIME itself will get the point across. Society and what is happening at that time will get the message through. The best example I can give for this rational is that in the early 60s those words wer spoken to all of us teens as we begin our march to sit in at the local drug store, "What you do today you may not see any results in 40 years from today". How can a 16 year old even try to understand 40 years into the future? In truth the only actual real life change that I have seen is more contentment with racial abuse of the African-American in this country. But, the youth of today have Barack H. Obama as a guide for the future. And, in 40 years maybe the youth of today will have learned that even Barack who is a Constitutional attorney does not have the right to freedom of religion. Nor does Opra have freedom of speech on media TV today. She still refuse to fit herself into the image that she is not a Black woman. She has no children out of wedlock, is rich and famous on her own. Yet she like Obama can not attend to church of their choice because of media sound bites and teaching black history that has its ties to Africa front and center is called nati-American and even Maxist. With out not one thought as to why now at this time???? And why only one person out of 8,000 as wrong for going to this church. Oh, while I am at it check with what MSNBC did to their one Black female anchor after she said on the air that she attended this church because it is near where she grew up? Now this is not a part of Black employment in America? Give me a break!! But, even more important Obama was trained to be proud of his Black skin by Rev. Wright and this means that Obama has moved us long past the dr. King's I had a Dream speech that very few know had to be changed to suit the accepted title of the White majority! This is what today's educarion will allow our next generation to learn if ni school and even on TV as we get the right to have freedom of speech on the public air waves. for now we have Black radio. In '09 Opray ( who was also trained by Rev. Wright) will have her O-W-N cable network. Then the world will be able to get to learn the truth that her network is not a "play" on her name. That it is not fist bumping or a terrorist signal but it is Dapping that began during the civil rights movement or the fist of those three Olympic gold medalist done side ways. But, we do have our own language and like every thing else we are not allowed to define it or our selves as we see us and value ourselfe,remember the Black in America specials are onn during prime but not Tavis Smiley. ..sorry but I forgot to mention something about being educated from an African-centeed point of view. Please pay close attention to why Rev. Wright can not be seen by even the Black race as a positive. to of the most popular figures in this country are Black. Obama and Opra. have you noticed how Obama keeps refering to C-Span. C-Span is where Tavis Smiley is and the only place to get any thing like the truth about the Black race especiall the Black family. All of these peoples are directly tied to Black liberation the same this as the African-centered history departments are teaching today. This is all because of the original Black Panthers ending up forcing to government to have our education taught this way. Yet most of us believe that the Black panthres are only for distructinl and Blacks in prison. O the Balck Panthers came in to existance to stop what we toeay call Racial profiling Yes reeducation is needed not just education as the ilver bullet to end racism and unequal justice because the Jim Crow that I fought for in the 60s I am still fighting against. Oh. at the present I am fighting the D.A office on the definition of "hate crime" being mislabeled as gang crime as we have no Black ganges here at all.....
