Child Support Exhort

Posted By: Branden Jones on July 24, 2008 Child support is a touchy subject that often gets left unaddressed. Many Christians are constantly hearing sermons about money and prosperity, and yet fail to recognize that righteousness is the key to all blessing. "Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked." Proverbs 10:6 Righteousness is given in totality to the believer when he/she comes to Christ. The blood of Christ automatically makes a person righteous---by faith. But we must learn how to live in that righteousness... Taking care of our families is our foremost duty in the faith. What is more right than taking care of our closest responsibility? Yet many single mothers are left to handle the load of children while many of the men reject their responsibility for other things. In my line of work, I see how both sides are affected by child support. I will graciously deal with this subject, and may the Spirit of the Lord change your hearts, exhort your spirit, and gracefully lead you into all righteousness and truth. And keep this in mind: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John1:9 "To pay or not to pay; that should NOT be the question?" We should do all things in love, mercy, and truth, including how we deal with child support. If a single mother is left to raise the children on her own, for whatever reason, she is absolutely entitled to FINANCIAL SUPPORT from the father. As believers we ought to come to one another to settle matters amongst ourselves, mediated by Christ, the righteous judge, rather than going to the courts in the world to handle it. The courts are not designed for mercy and grace. They are designed specifically for justice. There are some child support workers who have no mercy on those who have to pay, so I think it best that the two parents GRACEFULLY and MERCIFULLY sit down together to discuss how much will be allotted. I say this to your benefit. In this case, there is no need to go to the courts. The guarding parent ought not to be greedy and malicious in how much he/she expects. Nor should the other parent be stingy in how much they will agree to pay. If changes permit the need to re-examine the amount (for more OR less) it should be done in meekness, love, and understanding--- not evil and bitterness. Remember, you serve the Lord Christ Jesus. On the flipside, ANY parent who will not graciously support his/her own children ought to be taken to court SWIFTLY. For that individual is not being obedient to the faith. "By the grace of God or by the force of the government…" There is no reason why an individual does not take care of his own family. There are too many excuses. Single Mothers: Stop following this "independent woman" movement, foregoing child support if you are struggling. I believe a woman can be independent and survive on her own. But if you are struggling and barely getting by, put your pride down, and seek support from the father. If he will not graciously comply, let him know the alternative--- and not with an attitude. Let the Spirit of Christ be evident in your life. Men: I don't know where the pressure or vanity is coming from, but we need to step our game up. Young men need to stop chasing these fantasy images of being this iced-out kingpin, and do right by their kids. Many rappers call themselves "gods." Well, "gods" live in godliness---caring for their children and controlling their own bodies. I know all relationships don't work out, and some women can act a fool with the money. But they are entitled to financial support. Furthermore, if the baby's mother is not properly taking care of the children, seek custody for yourself. But God will deal with those who do not take care of their children, including the mother mistreats her children. "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." 1 Timothy 5:8 God will help us to do his will. If you need grace to be able to make ends meet to take care of your financial responsibility, it is readily available. Employers: Yep, I got some'n for you too. It is shameful, in the sight of God, for an employer to willfully and knowingly pay someone under the table to help them DUCK child support---ESPECIALLY if that individual is not handling his responsibility on his own, Do not think that your prospering business guards you from the judgment of God. "He resists the proud; but gives grace to the humble." Children: Love both of your parents, regardless of the circumstances. Do not overbear them with excessive desires, but be patient with them, helping them by your love and obedience. New Spouses: Spouses that are married to an individual with children from another marriage/relationship need to be RESPECTFUL of the situation; not being spiteful about the situation. The parents already have enough to deal with. Open communication needs to be established, mercy and understanding needs to be address. Leave all bitterness out of it. Serve Christ, loving one another. The family structure needs to return to the way God established it. Men NEED to be men (not thugs or pimps), respecting ALL women, and working to earn their living. Women need to be godly women, keeping their bodies for the Lord until they marry. All have sinned, but God will forgive AND CLEANSE from all unrighteousness. CEASE THE FORNICATION; the reason so many children are being born into broken homes. Love triumphs, wisdom is sweet, truth frees, mercy rejoices, and grace empowers. Deal with each one another in these. Serve the Lord Christ Jesus. You HAVE His righteousness to DO his righteousness. Grace and peace be abundantly yours in Christ. Wow, deep blog, Bro. Thank you its needed! In the NIV (New Intenational Version) 1 Tim 5:8, the scripture states "If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever". Now the Bible says what it says and this covers a huge paradigm of meanings. Also remember and this is to people who may not know this that the Bible is neutral gender in many areas, meaning in areas of the Bible, but not all that this applies to women as well if applies. Also the Bible states as a commandment to Lev 19:18 "thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, I am the Lord". If a employer is paying a person under the table as not to have child support take it, well his family are neighbors correct? Can a person live in the community one lives in, not know a person as a friend, associate, etc., but still be a neighbor? I have a neighbor across the street who i did not know had a 10 month old baby and had her last year, but she spoke to me the other day and showed me her baby in the road (I live in a cul-de-sac). Also to get very real and I wrote this, mu father has children my age down to the age of 7 and has the title of Rev. I do not hate my father and he is my father that I met at the age of 27. Who wants to apply such a term to their own father? It ain't easy despite what was done or not done. He was paid under the table and what you wrote brought that to mind, and I did not think on that subject to include employers that do this. I have a relative who goes out to all these agencies for food, money for utilities, Christmas gifts, supplies, etc. Her husband boasts of being the boss and "man of the house...". I told her flat out that your husband can't take care of a household of all the children you have on 7.50 per hour that he settled for because it's easier than other paying jobs. I stated the man of th house would work 3 jobs if he had to, so you won't have to do what you do. I'm just adding my experience and I don't want my personal experience possibly focused on. I only add it to share extra relevance to this blog. Keep up the great work Bro, and good to see other people posting and hopefully discussing. Keep on doing what you do Bro.
