Catch And Release...

Catch And Release...
Posted By: Christie Mack on July 30, 2008

Catch and release is a practice within recreational fishing intended as a technique of conservation. After capture, the fish are unhooked and returned to the water before experiencing serious exhaustion or injury.

The idea of capturing an object, causing it distress, and then releasing it under no merit seems heartless and cold. Yet man does it for sport. A catch and release fisherman, totally disregards the wellbeing of the creature and calls it conservation. How many "catch and release fishermen" are there in this world? I myself have never understood the concept of being this sort of fisherman. I agree with the sentiment that if you are going to catch something and put it through any type of distress or discomfort that it should be worth the while. Sadly enough due to the short term memory of fish they often swim up to that same baited hook only to endure torture once more. Why not JUST EAT THEM? For some reason I don't think it's that simple. What some fishermen fail to realize is that in certain cases the fish is often damaged during the capture and dies shortly after its release.

It takes a different breed of human to think and live selflessly; unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of meeting many of them. We search aimlessly and for long periods of time for that "perfect catch" and instead of appreciating the beauty of life we instead abuse our authority over nature and proceed to inflict pain which we unremittingly apologize for as we increase the intensity of the torture. We become sadists in nature taking from others what was never meant for us and using it against them for our amusement. Breaking hearts and transforming mindsets all the while wondering where all the "good" people are. We stand there fishing for the "perfect catch" and at that moment we hook someone, we then use them and watch amusingly as they squirm uncomfortably in the un-cloistered element that we placed them in and then we rave about our catch. Boasting about how easy it was to get it. We display it for all to see and envy, and when we're done inflicting our ignorance… we toss them.

Sadly enough due to the short term memory of the human heart we often swim up to that same baited hook only to endure the torture once more. Why not JUST LOVE US? For some reason I don't think it's that simple. What some people fail to realize is that certain hearts are damaged sometime during the capture and die shortly after its release.

In reverse- People fail to realize that hiding the truth hinders you making you like a fish out of water. Deceit suffocates you and your only release is submission to truth. When you allow yourself to be open and honest with the person you claim to love, you experience a release. It's a liberation that can only be achieved by first making the choice to be better. You cannot allow the damages of your past to dictate the progression of you future. You won't win. Be honest with yourself and be true to you heart. Often times in life we have to take a leap of faith and of course this may lead to a more unseen path, but the risk of loosing someone dear to you should be your greatest fear. It is often the ones with the purest of hearts that hand over themselves to the least deserving. And in the end are the same ones stuck with questions of "why?" and "what did I do wrong?" You did nothing wrong. All you did was love. And sometimes that is enough to bring on the pain. Soon you will grow tired of the pain and regain enough strength to walk away. But until then you wait in hope for your release.

We try so hard to make someone love us that we often overlook their down falls and as a result concoct in our own minds a fictitious image of that same person we claim to love. But we don't know this person. In fact we were so enthralled in who we wanted them to be that we never saw who they really were. So now we're stuck. Caught in a looping cycle and now reacquainted with disappointment. Unable to cope with reality, we soon develop resentment toward ourselves and not the one who caused the pain. If your heart is damaged it is not fair to expect the next person to fix it. Be whole within yourself. Even if you were the catch… you can find release.
