Achievers of Color Historical Profiles Past and Present

Achievers of Color Historical Profiles Past and Present
Posted By: Janet Griffin on August 01, 2008

Those of you who are interested in knowing more about Black History, our achievers and their accomlishments can view some of the information contained in the Achievers of Color Historical Profiles Past and Present encyclopedia, by going to http://theblackmarket.com/achieve.htm The encyclopedia is chronologically arranged by birth dates, from January 1 through December 31. It is complete with approximately 4000 achievers of color. This month, at the web site you'll read about famous and historical people of color born in August.
There is need of publishing assistance to get the first volume published.
I have been told by the superintendent of schools in my area that teachers were not required to know anything about Black History to get their teacher's certification, therefore to teach Black History on an elemetnary level may not be possible because there are not many who know much about the subject, except on college level.

At elementary level is where you have the most opportunity to build love of self, positive character, and self esteem in our young children, so they may resist the temptation of bad influences plaguing our communities of color today. We need to help them see academics in the same light they hold sports and rap, or at least help our young black children to become anxious about learning about themselves and the people who made it possible for them to enjoy what they have today.
If you know some university or publishing company that would be interested in taking on this endeavor, please let me know. I've been working this project 14 years, cross referencing information I've come across in books and on Internet for accuracy. Back in the day it was difficult. History and historical figures information was mostly passed down through generations by word of mouth because Blacks were threatened by beatings and possible death if caught learning to read or write, and the same applied to anyone found helping them.
Well, let me get off my soap box and get this out to you all. Oh before I close, August is the birth month of our future president of the United States, Barack H. Obama, born August 4. For those of you who know him personally, tell him Janet Griffin wishes him a happy birthday. Thank you,Take Care, and GOD BLESS
Janet
