Grace Okoye was a promising young dancer when her career was cut short by a brutal assault that left her scarred for life. Twenty years later, when her past gets in the way of her happiness, she heeds the invitation of her dance instructor and returns home to help hurting children and rediscover the rhythms of grace. What she doesn't expect is to meet a man who already seems to know her beat. But for all they share in common, the biggest thing in Grace's life is noticeably absent in his--faith. She's finally found the love of her life, but can she choose between him and God? Real, raw emotion and the promise of redemption run through this soulful new book from Marilynn Griffith. About the Author Marilynn Griffith is a freelance writer and conference speaker whose online columns and blogs reach thousands of women each year. She is the author of the Shades of Style series. TEEN SPOTLIGHT WITH "CHANDLER GHANT": Michigan Native Chandler Paige Ghant was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan July 16, 1994. She currently resides in the small suburbs of Harper Woods, Michigan about five minutes outside of Detroit. She is a member of Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Jones. Chandler has been writing stories since the age of eight. Personality wise, Chandler can be called funny, outgoing, and an individual who has set her goals and standards and plans to stick by them. Some basics on Chandler; her favorite colors are blue and black, favorite food is pizza, and she has a four year old cat named Naya Nicole Ghant. Chandler loves to; sing, dance, write, and watch and listen to her favorite band of all time MENUDO! The boy band Menudo is a 30 years old band that recreates itself every time a member reaches the age of 21. Chandler became a fan of the group in October of 2007 when she happened upon a new MTV show called Making Menudo (it could be compared to American Idol, or Making the Band). After watching this program, Chandler was inspired to resume writing a story that she had been previously working on. She decided to re-do the characters and add the 5 guys that were band members of Menudo to the story. Chandler’s story is entitled “The Red Eye Story” which is a teenage mystery, murder, suspense, drama, fantasy type of tale. It could also be called “Fan Fiction” since the characters are based on the boy band. The story takes place in Silver Stone a fictitious community that resembles Savannah, Georgia giving a small town feel. The tale of the “Red Eye” goes like this “There is a newly widowed woman in the late 1800’s who is pregnant with her 13th child, and makes a deal with the WRONG PERSON. You’ll have to read the story for the conclusion. Chandler has also written another story entitled “The Menudo Wives Club” about five girls from different locations who enters a contest to be in Menudo’s video. Through the Internet these girls link up, and become the best of friends. Chandler has placed both stories on the Internet and received to date over 1000 guests. To date, Chandler has received 2 gold, and silver medals in “Tae Kwon Do” in sparring tournaments, played the clarinet, performed in various talent shows, and recently attended the prestigious “Blue Lake International Fine Arts Camp” with a scholarship in their theatre program. Chandler pays homage to her grandfather who was more like a father the late Henry “Chandler” Ghant, for his wisdom, guidance and direction imparted in her life. Her parents are Carolyn Ghant, and Darryl Shannon. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
