Posted By: Brian Howard on June 14, 2005 An old African Proverb once said to not know is bad, to wish not to know is worse. I have to ask people what comes to mind when they read or hear this? Personally it can mean some ignorance that many a people continue to avoid when going through life especially when being hit with the obvious right in front of their eyes. A scenario one can described would be AIDS. It is said that 40% of patients with the virus do not tell their partners. What can also be said is the fact that many women are living with men who lead double lives and most likely have an idea but decide the worst side of an outcome would be too much to bear so they "wish not to know" and ultimately allow parasites and other things in their temple to be desecrated. It's true that not to know is bad and wishing not to know is worse, but most get caught up with that other saying (whether they want to admitt it or not).....you know the one, "Ignorance is bliss". It makes is easy when you can just say you didn't know and shift the blame to other. Or if they don't know something, they can create they're own versions of events to make them feel better. It is sad but true. One should want to know what type of situation they're in even if the truth hurts their feelings. Good issue to speak on.
