Posted By: Karen Hunter on September 16, 2008 I worked at the Daily News for 16 years before quitting in 2004 and I have been back a few times since for tours of my classes. SInce that time, I have noticed that little by little the powers that be are being replaced with folks from Great Britain, from the editor in chief to the head of the lifestyle and fashion section. And then i noticed, it's not just there. Just about every major news outlet has a solid British representation, particularly in decision-making positions. I was thinking that perhaps that Americans are so enamored by the Brits (like Simon Cowell and that dude that judges Dancing with the Stars and the other dude who is a judge on America's Got Talent and even the host of So You Think You Can Dance...and shall I go on?). Americans love their cool accents and cheeky demeanors that we're ripe for a takeover. It may have taken a few hundred years but the British are coming, the British are coming...and this time it won't be with military might. This time they will take us over in a much more subtle way--through our media. Can you say Rupert Murdoch? (Yeah, I know he's Australian, but there's a connection to England). Karen, It’s not just the news media. Our current national debt is held by folks from all over the global. America wanted globalization and we're getting it. The nations from all over the globe will soon own our nation. The British, Chinese, Koreans, Russians, Arabs and Germans …heck all the folks we owe bills are coming. It reminds me of the Dave Chapelle episode where the store owner is watching the brother as the White guy robs them blind. Our nation has been so fixated with majority versus minority issues that our nations have walked in and taken over many of our industries: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). We know we're in debt to China, Japan and a bunch of countries in the Middle East. But the takeover of our media, where our thoughts and ideas are shaped is another story altogether. You'd be surprised at the number of editors and producers from other countries at these news outlets. Do they have OUR best interest at heart?
