think about it Back in high shcool you couldn't wear exactly what you wanted to wear. Part of it is an expression of freedom. Like hey I'm in collgege now it's too many people to enforce a dress code. Plus it's like hey let me show off to this girl or that guy. THen again it's so many different cultures in HBCU's it's never all black. You got black and Indian, black mixed with this and that, then the other races. Demographics has a lot to do with it also. For example people up north have a different style than people down south. Hope this helps. Good luck with your article

You know...when you go to class...no one cares how you dress. You can go to class with a wrinkled shirt or jeans, and no one really cares. However, once you start walking around in the public for people to see, it matters. Fashion isn't a big part of college life to me, but I still like to look presentable.

dressing well is important dependin gon who u r as a person. some people feel if u get fresh or dress well thats makes u a better person . we all know what really counts even though it sounds corny as hell sometimes. i love 2 spend money on my clothes but yet it doesnt make me nor break me if my clothes disappear i will still be here. lookin nice is aleays good. dont get me wrong when u fly u get the attention u want maybe not need but u will get attention.

Priorities is what it really boils down to. Blacks, period, have been raised where they witness high value being placed on materialistic things. Things that have weight or mass. So, of course, this menatality is going to stick with them. I'm extremely happy that you are writing such an article though. I personally think that is why when our parents die, meaning when black people die, when don't get inheritances. Instead we get debt. How many white and I mean european americans, not minorities, care about the Jordans that are coming out on May 4th even though he doesn't even play anymore. Instead they sacrafice and wear the New Balances, that are suppose to be a very comfy shoe, which they had since freshman year and now they are about to graduate. Why do so our people care so much about appearance instead of education and leaving something to our children so we won't have to depend on financial aid. Instead, our parents use the money to buy the 150.00 pair of shoes instead of using that money toward our education and just getting us some cheap, yet comfortable New Balances. Its absolutely ridiculous. I'm definately not blaming my mom for anything because since in college, I have learned somethings, but maybe if someone told her some of the things that I have learned, praise God, I won't be over 20,000 in debt because of student loans. I'm only about to be a Junior. My family, please understand why you do what you do. Don't just do it, know why you do it, because your actions will determine your future as well as your children's future.

Once again, my famous line...

I pray that all young people, who are not there yet, get to the point where they do not care what others think. If you work and want to spend your money on clothes then do that. If you want to buy a pair of shoes for $150 then do that. If you don't then do that, too. The bottom line is self. My rule has always been if you are not giving me anything then you don't have an opinion about what I buy. Do what makes you happy no matter what anyone (not politicians or friends or even just people who feel their purpose in life is to give you their thoughts on what they think is the correct way to live your life) thinks. Most things that get a lot of attention really don't matter. Do you and do what makes you happy.

You gotta be clean, it's an image that most people gotta keep up. I like to look good, and when people say, "dang rico you always clean", you can't fall off.
