The Second Chapter: Acceptance

The Second Chapter: Acceptance
Posted By: Shelton Jackson on September 29, 2008

The Second Chapter: Acceptance is a culmination of a 6 year project that I was compiled to finish. I was convinced that this book of my personal thoughts would help someone else see that HIV is not an end but a new beginning.
At one point in my life I thought my life was over and that I would be alone for the rest of my life. But I saw the path that God had laid down for me and I followed it. The Second Chapter: Acceptance is just that; my journey to acceptance. It was an acceptance to many things; faith, patience, forgiveness, an understanding. I set out to put my acceptance in a form that other people could learn from and appreciate—poetry.

Poetry has always been easy for me because it has my rules to it; you can write what you fell and no one can call it wrong. This is also why publishers shy away from poetry because it can mean so many things to so many different people. So I knew right off the back that I had to self-publish my book because it could be years before I got a publisher to pick it up.
So with the help of some really good friends that were also trying to make a name for themselves I set out to release a book of not just poetry but a story from beginning to end. A story that did more than just make you think. This was a story that anyone that picked it up could see a little of them in my story, whether you were gay, straight, HIV infected or affected. This is not a story about being gay or HIV+. It’s a love story.
