Posted By: Kenton Waring on June 21, 2005 One Claflin University track team made history. The other defended its title. On Saturday April 23, 2005, the Claflin University men and women's track and field teams were named 2005 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions as well as the 2005 Region XVI National Athletic Intercollegiate Association champions. The men's team etched their names in the history book by becoming the first team in Claflin history to win the title of NAIA Regional champions. The women worked hard to hold onto their title as two-time defending champions. This is Claflin's last year in the EIAC and NAIA. The university will be leaving to perform in the SIAC conference of the NCAA Division II. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
