Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 17, 2008 DES PLAINES, IL Oakton Community College announces three full time, tenure track faculty openings at its two campuses for the 2009-2010 academic year, with start dates of August 17, 2009. Located in the near north suburban Chicago communities of Skokie and Des Plaines, Oakton employs individuals who respect, are eager to learn about, and have a willingness to accept the many ways of the world. Individuals with a commitment to working in a culturally competent environment and who reflect the increasing diversity of Oakton’s student body and community are sought to fill full time, tenure track faculty positions in Biology and Basic Nurse Assistant Training at the Skokie campus, and a full time, tenure track faculty position in Associate Degree Nursing at the campus in Des Plaines. One of the country’s premier community colleges, Oakton Community College is a caring community of educators dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. Faculty employed by Oakton are current in their use of evolving technologies, active in promoting critical thinking, and committed to challenging their students to be knowledgeable, ethical, and capable global citizens. Commitment to and enthusiasm for innovation in college-level teaching and learning is found from existing faculty and from those seeking to join the faculty. Oakton faculty engage in professional development and are expected to provide service to their department and to the college as a whole. Teaching responsibilities for the Biology position will be wholly located at the Ray Hartstein Campus in Skokie and will consist of Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and General Biology I and II. The successful Biology applicant will have a master’s degree in Biology or a related area and teaching experience. Qualifications preferred by Oakton for this position include undergraduate teaching experience and a doctorate in Biology or a related area. Experience teaching cadaver based anatomy and physiology also is preferred from applicants. Basic Nurse Assistant Training (BNAT) faculty will also have their teaching responsibilities wholly based at the Ray Hartstein Campus in Skokie. The successful BNAT applicant will demonstrate the integral ability to teach didactic, laboratory, and clinical components of the program. The successful BNAT applicant will possess a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, a current RN license, and at least two years of nursing experience with one year focusing on care for the elderly. Formal teaching experience or an Illinois Department of Public Health Train the Trainer certificate are required from applicants. Preferred qualifications sought from applicants are a Master’s degree, an ability to work collaboratively with other nursing faculty, and teaching experience with culturally diverse students. The ability to work a flexible schedule is required of the successful applicant. A position with teaching responsibilities wholly based at the Des Plaines campus is in Associate Degree Nursing (ADN). The primary teaching responsibilities are in the didactic and clinical sections of an ADN program. The successful Associate Degree Nursing applicant will have master’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of two years of full-time clinical experience in their background. Nursing supervision experience and teaching experience in medical-surgical nursing and one other nursing specialty are preferred in this program. Strong medical and surgical nursing experience is also preferred.
