As I was getting ready to take the trip to Ohio,I had some anxiety. First I was told that the KKK is still lurking there. Then I thought about the three civil rights workers slain, Schwerner, Goodman and Chaney in 1963 on the Mississippi freedom ride. 'cause I am that old thank you.

I was sharing a ride with three other volunteers that I never met. The story of those slain civil rights workers has always haunted me. I have always admired their courage.
They went to Mississipppi to register voters also.

But when we met at the Gateway Hilton,in Newark, I was so touched by the exuberance of youth. Their commitment, their conviction. That I forgot all about my own fear.

For those who have no knowledge of the Mississippi Freedom Rides I pasted a link below.

I always try to keep in the back of my mind the image of those, who have made it possible for people of color to be treated as equals. This campaign has taught me that a lot of folks, don't feel they are part of the mainstream. Feelings get hurt on both sides. But at the end of the day, many died so we all can be free.

How would we feel as mothers if our son's and daughters were killed defending America at home. Then be called names? Just thinking as always.

Well you know I can ! Been here all my life, And how much upstate can Ohio be ? It's practically Canada, I don't know who drew the map, but its getting ready to be cold as Canada too !
FYI, they mostly linger on the West Side of Cleveland, and in some of the suburbs.
Every 10 years someone is lynched and it goes unsolved, (wish someone could do a story some day ), or someone is found floating in the flats. All african American.
To me, that has the M.O. of the hooded ones.

Yes, I had a friend whom I love dearly, visit me this past weekend, and she had to do some work on the West Side. Untill I could pick her up after her work, I prayed that there would be no incidences of any kind. God answered my prayers and we so enjoyed her visit.

To whom are you speaking? Mozell? I hope you are not equating me to Rev. Jesse Jackson..I never saw myself like him..I am more like Stokely Carmichael a Trinidadian, brilliant Black man who changed his name to Kwame Toure and exiled himself to Guniea Bissau, who observed that the Irish (Ireland) never colonized Africa, and if we were to fight any one, it shoud have been us joining the Irish army for their freedom.

As far as Rev .Wright--.let me just say, that the day I move on is the day Iwill blog on Jeremiah Wright.

Name calling! It's nothing new. We have all been supportive to some causes or a cause in a supportive way. But name calling sends me back to an old saying "Sticks and Stones may hurt my bones, but words will never hurt me" So in name calling, it's always be around. Knowing who and what you do truthfully is really the name you wear. No matter what you're called. You never forget your name.

I wouldn't say they don't feel. Of course I know he feels, but somewhere he has learn the lesson of freedom. Freedom from being entraped "in a way" that he has not accepted name calling is aimed at himself., and this "is not" truly directed to himself. Remember, name calling is a slure of the tongue to stir up hurt! If you are "not guilty" of something, then you know who are and you have freedom from it. Name calling lashes out of the mouth! Many times, its the person calling out the names use who has the problem...they use their mouth as their weapon of hostility. Perhaps, they are the ones "who have been called names", so as a release of their anger they look to hurt others as to be-little them. It's a harsh thing in any uses of name calling. It is gross! It's a covering it, but the freedom is knowing YOURSELF, and you in turn you are free from it being part of a ugly name which isn't your name at all. --You'll only be a prisoner of name calling if you allow it effect you. It's not easy for everyone. Freedom has always been a fight!

Yes, I do. It's hurts sure. We move on because we let it go...We know our true self. And Marta no matter what names we are called we have truly found freedom when we have not absorbed what is a lie!

Yes, thats it ! Thats why a person's name is like music to their ears, Its a form of discipline. Mind control to put it mildly. Only you have the power within you to except who you are. It's freedom like the Brother said, comes from loving and knowing ones self. You have this power we all do. What gets in the way in most cases is the ego, and the conflict of it. ( telling you, this is not you ), when in actuality, you are fighting with yourself, and hurting you in the process.( and letting it linger ).
The initial expression hurts, which is a normal reaction, but afterwards, once it's formulated, move on to victory, because you know who you are, you win, therefore, are free. Yes Brother, I GOT THAT !

wow!! what we go through..and still we rise..we'll..we all could talk about things said to us that hurt..like the 5th grade teacher Mrs. Battle, that said what do you want you miserable child? when I raised my hand to ask to go to the bathroom..at that point I had only been here 3 years- in this country an the teacher was a Black American. Amazing, even writing this it tugs at my heart. Hurts a little still. I probably spoke English with an accent then. Then there are hurts on top of hurts..so when do you find this "freedom" at 90?? lol..how about "skinny legs" or "chicken legs" or "blackie" how about getting it from both sides?

I had to turn one of my dearest and oldest White friends from my life for good about the time the Rev. K. Wright was the rage.My friend only dates Black men and assoucate with Black people. She was against Rev. Wright and when I tried to tell her how I had learned what he meant about we dance to a different drummer because there are certain music not we get but the Whites so not get. How Black people can not do standard music, etc. She said I knew nothing about being Black. Althoung we have been close for about 22 years, I told her to never dial my phone unless she was in a mental hospital and then have the nurse doing the dialing, Then we can talk.

Marta, that is the best way I can answer that theme of this post. I did have to talk my friend out of believeing her hair was not turning nappy! This child did not want to be White,

Marta, a society is make up of 2 people who can communicate with each other. This should give one some idea that the 'two' will not be exactly the same in any way, form or fashion. But, this also means that in this world with billions of peoples there will be some who will not like you because you are:to short/too tall.

Because of your name your race or color or religion or even because you do not like cats and they do...so please do not allow these negative energy from these kinds of KKK mentality rent any space in your beautiful mind. OK, because they are not worth a moment of your time in worry or fear that they exist as they do, every where, be they in or out of the social closet.O.K.
