Job Description
Program Support Assistant

This position is located in the Mental Health Service Line at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The Jesse Brown VAMC is a complexity level 1b facility. The primary purpose of the position is to perform a full range of clerical and administrative duties that ensure efficient and effective program operations.

Major Duties

  • Major Duties: - Performs work involving the collection, compilation and or tracking or data and statistical information in support of the organizations operations. - Establishes protocols for incoming data sets and retrieves computerized data. - Reviews documents, reports and other data applications for omissions and other inconsistencies. - Responsible for processing of supplies and materials, and services through the IFCAP. - Receives, reviews and investigates incoming correspondence and action documents and follows up on work in progress to ensure timely replies or actions. - Receives, direct callers, patients and visitors. -Updates policy statements, SOP's, and plans in the direction of the service chief, ensuring accuracy regarding format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and distribution of copies. - Other duties assigned Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00- 3:30pm Telework: This position is not authorized for telework Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/30/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience in a preparing, updating and maintain programmatic data using Microsoft word and Excel applications; designing, organizing, maintaining, and updating various data programs; collecting and entering data into databases; assisting the service chief with managing the service records and files; gathering and tracking data, preparing reports, communicating with staff and patients and scheduling meeting.
