In this role, you will apply your skills in multiple trades to inspect, diagnose, and perform the advanced repairs and preventative maintenance that keep our critical hospital buildings running smooth and safely. ABOUT US DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. CVH opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Today, CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services. The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling. PLEASE NOTE A comprehensive medical examination, including a drug screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment. All state employees must adhere to Connecticut's Policy for a Drug Free Workplace. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Four (4) years of experience in one or more trade areas. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled trade functions in one or more trade areas. NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2. Housekeeping, custodial, and food services duties will not be considered as qualifying experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience. At the University of Connecticut Internship Training Program: Possession of 4,000 registered on-the-job training (OJT) apprenticeship program hours, recognized by the Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, along with related instruction hours in the respective maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General Experience for licensed trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVACR) only. At other state agencies: Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee may be substituted for the General and Special Experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in advanced building repairs in a variety of trades within a hospital setting Experience in more than one trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting and carpentry Experience in a wide variety of preventative maintenance activities on building systems Experience with a work orders system Experience in a Joint Commission accredited hospital, or in other related healthcare facility Experience with inspecting, diagnosing, and performing advanced building repairs Contact Information
