As a Department, we believe in "serving those who have served." Veteran cemeteries are a shrine to the memory of our Veterans who have passed. Connecticut Veterans Affairs takes great pride in maintaining these shrines to the very highest standard. The State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown is the largest state-operated Veterans cemetery in connecticut and is the final resting place for over 16,000 Veterans and their family members. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Skills interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; Ability to follow oral and written instructions; operate equipment and vehicles used in daily work; learn policies and procedures; operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work; record keep. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working in a cemetery setting. Experience in landscaping /groundskeeping. Experience in setting headstones according to National Cemetery Administration (NCA) standards. Experience in snow removal, snowplow operation snowblower operation. Experience in the operation and maintenance of skid steer loaders, zero turn lawn mowers.
