Job Description
Senior Software Engineer

We have launched a new business venture at Cincinnati Childrens. As part of this effort, we have established a new engineering team dedicated to building expertise and delivering on this initiative. Leveraging modern digital strategies, the team will design and implement solutions that drive transformation and ensure the missions success.

As one of the first engineers on this newly formed team,youllstep into a highly collaborative, project-driven environment where you will work side-by-side with platform engineers, security engineers, data engineers, architects, and other technical experts to bring complex solutions to life.

This role will evolve significantly over time as the initiative grows,new technologiesemerge, and organizational needs expand. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Structure

  • Design, develop, and test complex software engineering projects leveraging a variety oftechnologies,integrations at the organization.

  • Understand national and international trends in healthcare data integration, algorithms, libraries,frameworksand software engineering principles to ensure that CCHMC is positioned toparticipateand leverage those trends where necessary and possible.

  • Participate in code reviews.

  • Maintain currency in the field through continuing education,literatureand seminars.

  • Implement this knowledge into the department.

  • Continue to develop understanding of CCHMC business processes and ensure collaboration strategies keep pace with business needs.

  • Participate actively in the development andexecutionsoftware engineering practices and strategies.

  • Collaborate with platform engineers, security engineers, data engineers, Leads/Architects to refine and update operating standards and guidelines for data pipelines and ETL processing.

Technical & Business Skill

  • Mastery of one or more Software Engineering tools, languages,practicesand architectures, such as SDLC, Design Patterns, Source Code Management,DevOPs, Frameworks, etc.

  • Mastery of core Software Engineering technologies supporting front end, backend development.

  • Deep understanding of core CCHMC/healthcare clinical, business and research processes to help buildappropriateand holistic solutions.

  • Obtain Buildadditionalskills through continuingeducation, andmentorjunior staff in developing business and technical skills.

Technical Support & Customer Service

  • Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support.

  • Adhere to, develop/refineand promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures.

  • Model outstanding customer service behavior, includingtimelyand effective follow-up with customers.

  • Provide technical support and second- and third-level problem resolutionassistance, andsupport departmental efforts to improve customer satisfaction.

  • Develop and refine support documentation and teach junior staff troubleshooting techniques and processes.

  • Develop proactive monitoring systems (in collaboration with platform engineers) toidentifyproblems before theyimpactproduction customers.

  • Work with vendors when necessary to ensure CCHMC investments and requestsare beingadequately supported and enhanced; understand vendor escalation pathways.

  • Escalate support issues with urgency.

  • Take24hourcallona staffrotation.

Project Execution & Management

  • Executeownproject tasks with urgency and toa high levelof quality.

  • Communicate status clearly and effectively using departmental project management tools.

  • Followtime-trackingand other project management requirements.

  • Participate actively in project meetings, stand-ups, etc.

  • Serve as technical lead for moderately complex projects, collaborating with project managers to ensure project scope/risk/budget/etc.areadequately managed.

  • Lead project meetings and workgroups.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field

  • 4+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, informationscienceor a related quantitative field

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental datamgmtand analytics initiative

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to evolving technologies, business needs, and modern engineering practices.

  • Advanced experience developing scalable front-end applications using React and TypeScript.

  • Strong understanding of localization frameworks and best practices to support multi-language and global product experiences.

  • ProficiencywithTailwindCSSfor building maintainable, responsive, and accessible UI components.

  • Expertisein writing high-quality, maintainable unit tests using Jest or similar frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience with Radix UI and component-driven design systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of Redux or other state-management patterns in complex front-end applications.

  • Proficiencyin .NET development, including building andmaintainingbackend services.

  • Experience designing and implementing Minimal APIs in .NET for lightweight, high-performance services.

  • Strong understanding ofmicroservicesarchitecture, including inter-service communication, scalability, and observability.

  • Expertiseworking with Entity Framework Core and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and schema design.

  • Experience developing comprehensive unit test strategies across both front-end and back-end services.

  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with Azure cloud services, including deploying and monitoring applications in production environments.
